Urben, General Services Manager DATE: February 11, 2015 RE: Bid Award- Skid Steer BACKGROUND The Common Council allocated$65,000 in the 2015 CIP Major Equipment Budget for a new skid steer for the Streets Division. A new unit will replace the 1998 unit that continues to experience steering, hydraulic and electrical problems that no longer make it cost effective to maintain. ANALYSIS Because of the operational demands of this unit it was determined the specifications should include an independent suspension to better insulate the machine components and the operator from the impact of the heavy pounding and grinding while in use. Working in conjunction with Street Division staff, Purchasing then prepared specifications for this unit. Bids were posted online on NovusVendor and sent to known vendors. Bids were due on February 5, 2015. While four bids were initially received for this unit, only one bid proposed a unit that met the independent suspension specifications. As such, the attached bid tab reflects the one bid received for this unit. City staff reviewed the sole bid received from FABCO Equipment Inc. for a Caterpillar 257D and concluded it met the minimum bid specifications. FISCAL IMPACT The total fiscal impact of the unit with trade is $64,065. This item was budgeted in the 2015 CIP Major Equipment Budget at $65,000. Funding for this item would be charged to A/N#: 323- 0430-7204-06545. RECOMMENDATION Purchasing recommends the Common Council award this bid to FABCO Equipment Inc. for $64,065.
