City Manager Goals CITY HALL 215 Church Avenue P.O.Box 1130 Oshkosh,Wisconsin 54903-1130 City of Oshkosh O.IHKOIH TO: Mayor and Members of the Common Council FROM: Mark A Rohloff,City Manager.CG—! DATE: lanuary 22, 2015 RE: CITY MANAGER GOALS FOLLOWING ADOPTION OF STRATEGIC PLAN On Tuesday's Council Agenda, the Council will be considering a resolution adopting the Strategic Plan for 2015 — 16. This document was prepared following a joint Council/staff retreat in July, as well as presentations and discussions with Council over the past few months. The document lays the groundwork for much of the city's priorities for the next two years. I am pleased that Council has worked so closely with staff in adopting this document. When I met with Council at my December 9, 2014 review, we discussed the possible goals that Council may wish to set for me for 2015. There were some comments that perhaps my goals should be tied more directly with the Strategic Plan. I certainly agree that goals related to the Strategic Plan would give both department heads and me a clear direction on priorities for the coming year. As I reviewed the final draft of the Strategic Plan in anticipation of its adoption, I recognized that there were elements to implementing the Strategic Plan that may be worthy of consideration as specific goals for me for 2015. Additionally, Council gave me general feedback on providing updates to Council on a regular basis. With that in mind, I would submit for Council's consideration some specific goals for 2015. They are as follows: • Provide report on Strategic Plan progress, including dashboard data,on no less than a quarterly basis effective the first quarter of 2015. • Expand newsletter to provide articles on departmental activities, particularly items related to the Strategic Plan. • Develop tracking system and report on Council requests and directives. The first goal is intended to have a document that Council can use to follow the Strategic Plan. The other two goals will help address issues that Council brought up in my review. I appreciated the suggestions, and have begun some of these already. I feel that these goals will enable me to better communicate to Council progress on items and projects that staff is following, as well as be more responsive to Council requests and directives. I welcome your thoughts on these items and look forward to a discussion at the upcoming Council meeting either during the discussion of the Strategic Plan or afterwards.
