STAFF:

Marking & Fund Development Coordinator
Meeting was called to order at 1:04 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Approval of July 28, 2014 meeting minutes: Dale moved to approve the meeting minutes as written. Gary
seconded. All were in favor. Meeting minutes approved as written.
Continuing Education:
Mark announced Julie was with us today to give a quick fundraising exercise to help us gauge how we
feel we, as a board, are doing around fundraising.
Mark also announced for those who were not already aware that Julie has accepted a position with the
Paine Art Center and will only be with us until after the Fall Festival this year. Everyone wished her well.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Fund Raising Committee (FOSC):
Viv thanked those who helped and supported the Brat Fry early in the month.
Mostly have been discussing the upcoming Fall Family Fun Fest.
Also considering a bake sale during the flu shot clinics this year.
Have decided to increase the Friends Annual Minimal Support to $20/individual & $25/couple for 2015.
They have other fundraising ideas that are continuing to be discussed to take to the Friends Board for
approval.
Governance
No report.
Finance
Dale stated the committee did meet however, he was not available. Cynthia stated they reviewed the
budget. She stated that virtually all the operating budget is static and if we were required to cut back
again this year we have not much else to look at except staffing. This year the staff and Friends have
done a very aggressive job of fundraising. Mark stated that the proposed budget will not include a
Health Coordinator position as previously planned. Mark stated if any funding would be available he
would like to increase the Fund Development position to full time in order to have a better opportunity to
raise funds for the Center with the continuing decrease in municipality budgets.
Dale questioned if we would or had considered contracting out our marketing. This would eliminate any
benefits that are paid for a full time employee. Mark stated that that had not yet been considered.
Mark stated the next step with the budget is his meeting with Mark Rohloff and Ray Maurer to review the
proposed budget.
Health
The last meeting the committee was discussing combining the Health Coordinator position and the
Fitness Coordinator position with additional hours. Since that meeting, it looks like this will no longer be
an option. The Health Committee will meet immediately following the board meeting.
1
Committee on Aging (COA)
Xandy has been excused from the meeting today however Mark reported that the Center did host a public
meeting around “Senior Friendly Communities”. The COA will meet next week to discuss the results of
that meeting.
Chairperson’s Report
Cynthia also encouraged individuals to sell raffle tickets for the Fall Fest. Kathy distributed everyone’s
packets to be sold. She stated that if each board member and staff sold their packs we would raise over
$2,000 in just these sales.
Manager’s Report
Mark reported that all staff reviews (excluding 2 part time positions) have been completed.
Kathy and Mark are pulling together a final meeting date with Dimension IV and will send out a save the
date to the boards and staff as soon as that date and time have been confirmed.
Kathy and Chris Armstrong will be presenting on the topic of Improvement Processes at the Wisconsin
Aging Network next month. Mark and Carrie will also be attending.
We will have two interns this semester from UW-Oshkosh. One is a Human Services major while the
other in majoring in Social Work.
Earlier this summer the Center hosted the Wisconsin Association of Senior Centers meeting here.
The staff planned and facilitated a very successful “Take Your Child to Work Day” for the City employees.
We agreed to host this year in an effort for employees to see the type of work that we do. That is
precisely what we did. Classes were held just as we would for seniors (arts, crafts, cooking, carving,
exercise, etc.) and the feedback has been very positive!
The Center was a site for one of the Riverwalk Development meetings. Mark passed out handouts to the
group for anyone wanting to give some input.
