Oshkosh, WI 54902 (920) 232-5300 (920) 232-5307 FAX ADVISORY BOARD OF THE OSHKOSH SENIORS CENTER MEETING MINUTES JULY 28, 2014 PRESENT: Mary Wiedenmeier, Ginny Brockhaus, Roberta Messer, John Hauser, Judy Smith, Xandy Kloeckl, Barbara Goldthwaite, Dale Sonnenberg, Sandy Noe, Sue Gullickson, Vicki Leichtfuss EXCUSED: Cynthia Thorpe, Gary Konrad ABSENT: STAFF: Mark Ziemer, Senior Services Manager; Kathy Snell, Lead Office Coordinator Meeting was called to order at 1:00 p.m. Judy introduced Sandy Noe as the newest board member. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  Approval of May 19, 2014 meeting minutes: Roberta moved to approve the meeting minutes as written. Dale seconded. All were in favor. Meeting minutes approved as written. COMMITTEE REPORTS Fund Raising Committee (FOSC):  Touch a Truck - collaboration with Parks. Raised just over $2,300.00 for the Center. th  Brat Fry will be held on August 16 at Festival Foods  Mystery Dinner – Still working on details for 2015 event. Governance  Judy reported the group has not met but an Exit Interview has been drafted and will be sent to the committee for review. Finance  Dale stated the committee had not met. Mark said the budget information was just sent over late last week and therefore we will be pulling a meeting together very soon. Health  Did not meet and is scheduled to meet immediately following this meeting. Friends of the Oshkosh Seniors Center Report  Barbara reported the group is preparing tickets for the Fall Family Fun Fest Raffle.  A recognition event was held last week. There was minimal turnout and we are figuring that had to do with the financial presentation instead of just having another social gathering. It was something to try and will revisit the recognition in the future.  It was also discussed to hold Board Training activities in January as the FOSC Board will have several new board members at that time. Mark added a plea requesting everyone to think about who would be interested in being a board member of those individuals they know and interact with. Committee on Aging  Xandy stated we are hosting a Community Forum around “Aging Friendly Communities” on August 7 from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. Please join us if you are available. Chairperson’s Report  Judy stated that Cynthia sends her regrets she had already had plans and therefore was unable to attend today’s meeting. She is excited to start working with the board in the Chairperson’s role.  Judy said she would encourage anyone who could make it to attend the above reference forum as well as support the FOSC with the upcoming Fall Festival and Brat Fry. Manager’s Report th  4 of July Parade – once again we had a presence in this year’s parade. 1  Mayor’s Breakfast – will be held on Friday morning. If you are at all interested in volunteering, please let us know.  Dimension IV – has given a rough draft of their report. We met with them to revise and are waiting for the edits.  Budget – biggest challenge to look at sustainability for the coming years. Mark intends to schedule a meeting with the personnel adhoc committee within the next week or so.  SchedulesPlus – Deb, the programmer was here last week and held mini training session with the staff in order that we may better utilize our new program.  Transportation Advocacy Meeting – we hosted a meeting here last week.  District 3 State Association Meeting – will be held here on Friday.  Henry Golde, Holocaust Survivor – will be speaking here on Tuesday, August 5.  Soup Days – we will be looking at asking different groups for serving (sometimes preparing meals as well). Wondering if this group would be willing at some point to do a Soup Day one month throughout the year. Will also ask City Council, other departments, etc.  Partnership with Communities Group of Oshkosh North – we are working with Oshkosh North High School to have students come and work with seniors in and around computers. Hoping to build some good relationships and give those who seem isolated a new way to communicate through technology. Roberta stated this could blossom into memory books or DVDs. o Judy suggested helping participants make this for their families for gifts. o Old Business:  None New Business:  None Comments:  Xandy stated that her neighbor suggested holding a grief support group during daytime hours instead of always evening times for those who have issues with transportation. Continuing Education:  Postponed. Adjournment:  Roberta moved to adjourn. All were in favor, meeting adjourned.
