TRANSIT ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
AUGUST 20, 2014
PRESENT: Diane Hoffman, Diane Lowe, Caroline Panske, Troy Monday and Mike Norton
ABSENT: None
STAFF PRESENT: David Vickman, Transit Manager
Marlene Binder, Secretary
Jim Collins, Transportation Director
Chairperson Caroline Panske called the meeting to order at 4:02 p.m.
ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES FROM JULY 16 2014 MEETING
Ms. Hoffman moved to accept the minutes of the July 16, 2014 meeting and Mr. Norton seconded the
motion. Motion carried (5-0).
CITIZEN’S STATEMENTS
Chuck Hodge, 202 Oxford Street, wanted to compliment Marlene Binder on the minutes as he knows how
much time and effort it takes to produce something like that.
TABLED BUSINESS
1. DISCUSSION OF FAIR ACRES ACCESS
Mr. Collins stated he met with Philip Edison and Pick’N Save last week and everyone agreed that installing
the shelter at the current location is the safest and best alternative. He explained that currently he is
waiting for the return of the signed easement, next it would go before the Plan Commission for approval
and then City Council would need to accept the easement before the cement could be poured. He said
Pick’N Save proposed installing a walking path diagonally between the two sidewalks from the building to
the rear of the shelter and a cart corral behind the shelter. Mr. Collins clarified that Pick’N Save would do
those things on their own but that he supports the idea and would assist getting their plan through the
proper channels.
Ms. Panske questioned if Pick’N Save was really onboard with this because they said they would rather
see no shelter than one on Jackson Street. Mr. Collins reassured the Board that Pick’N Save is 100%
onboard. He went on to say they thought it best to keep pedestrians out of the parking lot due to
increased traffic, and that going through the residential complex, Taco Bell, or by Associated Bank were
not options. Mr. Collins and Pick’N Save mutually agreed that, with the amount of pedestrian and
vehicular traffic already in the parking lot, it would not be safe to have the bus travel through this area
and that the best location for the shelter is on Jackson Street.
Charles Hodge, 202 Oxford Avenue, said Pick’N Save is a very good organization, donating food and hiring
handicapped people. He stated he spoke with Tom, manager of Pick’N Save, who verified everything that
Jim just said. He also said the cement contractor was onsite while he was there.

2. DISCUSSION OF ROUTE 9 AND 7 PROPOSED CHANGES
Mr. Collins wanted to update the board that the City Council adopted the proposed changes to Routes 7
and 9 at their last meeting. He explained that he is making a change to Route 7 based on citizen input to
travel through Aurora on their frontage, exiting further south. This would make it possible to service the
stop on the other side of Westhaven Drive near the Aurora Clinic and Festival Foods. He continued to say
that staff would meet with Aurora to make sure they were ok with us going through the frontage road. He
said information regarding the change will be publicized at the Transit Center and onboard buses.
Mr. Vickman stated the proposed change will go into effect September 29th.
Mr. Collins went on to say the shelter by Kwik Trip would be moved to the south west corner of Witzel
Avenue and Westhaven Drive. He said Dave will meet with Carl Traeger about possibly installing a bus
shelter on 20th Avenue where the stop is currently.
Mr. Norton inquired when changes would be made to Route 3. Mr. Vickman replied that we wanted to try
it for a little bit during the school year to see what it was like; we could start to look at the data in October
and go from there.
Mr. Collins said there are still two openings on this Board. Mr. Norton inquired if the openings were
posted at the Transit Center or on the buses. Mr. Vickman replied he posted on the Face Book page and
that he would post it at the Transit Center and on the buses. Ms. Lowe suggested a minor edit to the post
on Facebook to bring it back to the top of the page.
ADJOURNMENT
Ms. Lowe moved to adjourn at 4:27 p.m. Mr. Norton seconded the motion. Motion carried (5-0).
