We would like to extend our sincere thanks for your support as NeighborWorks Badgerland continues the pursuit of Healthy Neighborhoods of choice in Oshkosh. Communitv Building and Engagement In March 2014, recognition certificates were presented to resident leaders of the NorthShore and the River East Neighborhood Associations at the 2014 State of the City address. These certificates acknowledge the partnership between NeighborWorks Badgerland, the City of Oshkosh, and the neighborhood associations - in pursuit of Healthy Neighborhoods. In addition, several other groups are in the process of organizing. It is anticipated that these groups will achieve the City's requirements for recognition in 2014, exceeding the stated goal of creating two new neighborhood associations per year. Resident leaders from each association attend regular meetings of the NeighborWorks Badgerland Oshkosh Healthy Neighborhood Alliance (formerly the Resident Leadership Committee) to discuss strategies for continuing to strengthen Oshkosh neighborhoods. Through the efforts of resident leaders, several neighborhood events were held in 2013. Stevens Park held their first ever fall street dance and outdoor movie night. The Middle Village Neighborhood Association hosted their annual "Project Safe Passage" during the fall 2013 pub crawl. Neighbors greeted pub crawl participants passing through Middle Village with burritos, walking tacos, bottled water, and offers of assistance — if needed. Several neighborhood associations participated in the 2013 Neighborhood Night Out in partnership with the Oshkosh Police Department; and NeighborWorks Badgerland hosted the free Creating Healthy Neighborhoods Workshop where 30 Oshkosh residents learned about best practices for creating neighborhood associations of their own. During the summer of 2013, NeighborWorks Badgerland partnered with the Algoma Park Neighborhood Association to conduct the NeighborWorks America 2013 Community Impact Measure. Resident volunteers collected 205 resident survey responses, 46 block level physical observations, and 100 parcel level physical observations. Resident volunteers also provided data entry and project coordination services for this project. In exchange, members of the neighborhood association were able to work with City of Oshkosh Community Development and Parks Department staff to negotiate the installation of new playground equipment in Teichmiller Park. In October 2013, four resident leaders from Oshkosh participated in resident leadership training through the NeighborWorks America Community Leadership Institute held in Sacramento, CA. This three day training consisted of workshops, focus groups, and tours. Our team had the opportunity to meet 1 and learn from resident leaders from other NeighborWorks organizations across the country. We also developed an action plan and have applied for a $2,000 grant from NeighborWorks America to assist with implementation of the plan. This year, resident leaders will reach out to professionals in the Real Estate community to assist with the marketing and sale of quality homes in the neighborhoods. Homeownership Services and Promotion From May through September of 2013 NeighborWorks Badgerland implemented the second round of Good NEIGHBOR Grants as a mechanism to make exterior improvements affordable for homeowners in our partner neighborhoods. In total, 13 grants were distributed creating over $86,000 worth of added value in our neighborhoods. The types of projects completed included the installation of new windows; porch repairs; concrete work; new roofs; new doors; new siding; exterior painting; landscaping; and much more. Also in 2013, statewide, NeighborWorks Badgerland provided counseling and education to 1,015 families and awarded 449 education completion certificates through our eHome America websites; assisted 211 first time homebuyers; and prevented 13 mortgage delinquencies. Real Estate Development • The renovation of 633 Mount Vernon was completed in 2013 and the property was sold to a qualified first time homebuyer. The new owners couldn't be happier with their new home and neighborhood. • NeighborWorks Badgerland has contracted with High Caliber Construction of the Valley, LLC for the renovation of 667 Bowen Street. Substantial completion is anticipated by September 1, 2014.
