Lake States Logging Congress & Equipment Expo
September 5, 6 2014
EAA Grounds, Oshkosh, WI
Proiect Description
The annual Great Lakes Logging & Heavy Equipment Expo is sponsored by the Great Lakes Timber Professionals
Association (GLTPA) which is headquartered in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. GLTPA is the forest products industry
standard for more than 68 years. The first "Logging Congress" occurred on November 1 & 2, 1945 in Houghton,
Michigan. 'In 1948, the event began the practice of adding different locations to encourage greater exposure,
higher participation and economic benefit to host area. The Expo received a name - change makeover in 2013 to the
"Lakes States Logging &Heavy Equipment Expo ". The goal of the change is to attract new construction and heavy
equipment based industries. By removing the term "Congress ", which held a political denotation, it eliminated
confusion by potential attendees, sponsors and exhibitors.
Now in its 69th year, the Great Lakes Logging & Heavy Equipment Expo events attracts over 300 exhibitor booths,
3,500 attendees daily, and covers 875,000 square feet of show area. Over 200 indoor and outdoor exhibitors, from
all over the US, Canada and even Europe, attend each year to showcase the best Log Splitters, Portable Sawmills,
Compact Tractors & Logging Equipment, implements, Chainsaw Carving, Wood /Pellet Stove Dealers and much,
much more.
The Expo is designed to have vendors display and promote all products used in the forestry, wood, and
construction industry. Through demonstrations and exhibits, attendees promote the rapid change in technology
and enable customers to analyze and compare products at one location.
One of the goals of the Expo is to foster education for attendees. The importance of the forest product industry to
our economy is often misunderstood. It is ranked the second largest industry in Wisconsin and touches the lives of
every person; not only in Wisconsin, but in the nation. Everyone uses products in the wood industry.
The Expo isn't all business, however. The Expo is often referred to as the "logger's holiday" and provides a more
relaxed setting to allow for networking. It begins with the well- attended and always favorite Kickoff Event. In
addition to viewing the exhibits, many industry members and their families enjoyed their time together by
participating in family - friendly activities, including a Timberworks Lumberjack Show, Log Loading and Forwarder
Operator Championships.
The Expo also helps the host area in many ways. In addition to being a popular event for and supported by
residents, The Expo attracts guests from outside the host city. The Expo is the largest Midwest forestry and
equipment tradeshow of its kind, drawing nationally and internationally from Canada, to as far away as Finland.
This diverse group of exhibitors and attendees gives the host city a chance to showcase the best of what their
community has to offer. An attendee might experience the community for the first time and consider it as a place
to visit or live in the future. Visitor spending could reach well over $1 million dollars in an economic boost.
