HomeMy WebLinkAboutWeekly Newsletter (2) MINUTES SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY BOARD JANUARY 20, 2014 PRESENT: Kim Biedermann, Margy Davey, Nikki Stoll, Samara Hamze and Tom Pech EXCUSED: Jan Scalpone, Bob Breest and Michelle Bogden Muetzel STAFF: Elizabeth Schultz, Assistant Planner CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 4:06 p.m. by Chair Margy Davey. PUBLIC COMMENT Steve Barney requested the Sustainability Advisory Board consider joining the Partnership for Sustainable Communities. APPROVE MINUTES Motion by Ms. Biedermann and second by Ms. Hamze to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion carried, 5-0. BIRD CITY RENEWAL & ACTIVITIES Bettie Harriman gave a brief presentation on Bird City Wisconsin and the efforts undertaken by the groups within Oshkosh to reach High Flyer status for the second year in a row. Ms. Harriman informed the SAB that Bird Fest has rd been scheduled for May 3 and will include: live bird exhibits, bird walks, and a big sit. Ms. Hamze asked if there was a centralized communication channel between the various organizations involved with birding in the area. Ms. Harriman explained that the common interest of birds has been enough to connect the various organizations. However, public education and outreach has been discussed as a top priority to increase awareness among youth in the area. ASIAN CARP RESOLUTION Mr. Pech referenced a recently released Army Corp of Engineer study which suggests the cost to block Asian carp from Great Lakes could exceed $15-$18 billion. Ms. Biedermann explained this resolution is a step to promote collaboration and recognize that no one entity will be able to tackle this effort alone. Ms. Stoll commented that we are known as “Oshkosh on the Water” and must recognize how important our waterways are to the health of our community. Motion by Mr. Pech and second by Ms. Biedermann to forward Resolution 13-02 – Keeping Asian Carp Out of the Great Lakes to the City Council for consideration. RD NEXT MEETING MONDAY, FEBRUARY 3 Chair Davey reminded the Board of the next meeting. ADJOURN Motion by Mr. Pech and second by Ms. Stoll to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried, 8-0.
