BIRD CITY RENEWAL & ACTIVITIES
Bettie Harriman gave a brief presentation on Bird City Wisconsin and the efforts undertaken by the groups within
Oshkosh to reach High Flyer status for the second year in a row. Ms. Harriman informed the SAB that Bird Fest has
rd
been scheduled for May 3 and will include: live bird exhibits, bird walks, and a big sit.
Ms. Hamze asked if there was a centralized communication channel between the various organizations involved with
birding in the area.
Ms. Harriman explained that the common interest of birds has been enough to connect the various organizations.
However, public education and outreach has been discussed as a top priority to increase awareness among youth in
the area.
ASIAN CARP RESOLUTION
Mr. Pech referenced a recently released Army Corp of Engineer study which suggests the cost to block Asian carp
from Great Lakes could exceed $15-$18 billion.
Ms. Biedermann explained this resolution is a step to promote collaboration and recognize that no one entity will be
able to tackle this effort alone.
Ms. Stoll commented that we are known as “Oshkosh on the Water” and must recognize how important our
waterways are to the health of our community.
Motion by Mr. Pech and second by Ms. Biedermann to forward Resolution 13-02 – Keeping Asian Carp Out of the
