HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutesMINUTES SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY BOARD ENVIRONMENT RESOURCE SUBCOMMITTEE September 16, 2013 PRESENT: Jan Scalpone, Samara Hamze, Aaron Campbell, Margy D avey, and Nikki Stoll EXCUSED: Kim Biedermann STAFF: Elizabeth Schultz, Assistant Planner CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 5:05 p.m. by Cha ir Jan Scalpone. FINALIZE EDUCATIONAL SIGNAGE FOR COMMUNITY GARDENS The subcommittee discussed the layout and content o f the community garden educational signage. It was decided to keep the layout consistent with signage installed at the shoreline restoration garden site. Nikki Stoll and Samara Hamze volunteered to take photos a t local community gardens and Margy Davey will finalize the layout and content for the Sustainabil ity Advisory Board meeting in October. SHORELINE RESTORATION ACTIVITIES Jan Scalpone updated the subcommittee on the recent cleanup event at the shoreline restoration garden site. According to Justin Mitchell, shoreline restoration coordinator, approximately 30 volunteers were in attendance, 160 plants were put in and new mulch wa s added to the pathways. Aaron Campbell attended t he cleanup event and added the garden is healthy and h e was pleased with the turnout of volunteers at the event. Jan requested an update be made at the Sust ainability Advisory Board meeting in October. EXPLORE PARTICIPATING IN WORLD WILDLIFE FUND - EART H HOUR CHALLENGE Assistant Planner Elizabeth Schultz presented the s ubcommittee with a potential funding opportunity through the World Wildlife Fund. The subcommittee discussed the opportunity and felt that their effor ts would be better served by coordinating with local o rganizations to host an Earth Hour Challenge event and revisit the funding opportunity in the future. PROGRESS OF 2013 IMPLEMENTATION PLAN The subcommittee discussed the priority items withi n the 2013 Sustainability Plan Action Plan. Consens us was reached that the next priority item for the sub committee will be to develop outreach materials and approach local events to promote sustainability wit hin the community. NEXT MEETING TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15 TH AT 6:00PM ADJOURN Motion by Aaron Campbell and second by Samara Hamze to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:35 pm.
