GRAND OPERA HOUSE ADVISORY BOARD
M I N U T E S
MAY 20, 2013
GRAND OPERA HOUSE LOBBY, 100 HIGH AVENUE
Present: Marilyn Rogge, Joe Girard, Diane Lowe, Marilyn Haberkorn, Mary Louise
Lewis and Marvin Mengeling. Also present were GOH CEO Joe Ferlo and General
Services Manager Jon Urben.
CALL TO ORDER:
Chair Lewis called the meeting to order at 6 P.M. There were no public comments.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 18, 2013 MEETING:
It was motioned by Rogge, seconded by Lowe that the minutes be approved as presented.
Motion carried unanimously.
REPORT: UPDATE OF THE GRAND OPERA HOUSE FOUNDATION
Chair Lewis asked for the GOH Foundation Update. Mr. Ferlo presented several
highlights of the upcoming Grand season, including partnerships with three resident arts
companies (the Symphony, the Community Players and Hysterical Productions),
programs with the area high schools (Oshkosh North, Lourdes and Valley Christian) and
programming for the local elementary schools (8 curriculum based shows at reduced
cost). He noted they expect the new season programming lineup to be announced in the
coming weeks. He noted the Grand building is in good shape and they attribute a slight
reduction in their utility costs to the roof replacement done as part of the 2009 structural
th
repairs. He noted 2013 marks the 130 anniversary of the Grand Opera House—with
special events planned throughout the year to celebrate this milestone. He noted they
have set a season goal of seeking a $130,000 membership drive in commemoration of the
th
130 Anniversary.
REPORT: UPDATE OF GRAND OPERA HOUSE MAINTENANCE
Chair Lewis then asked for the Update of the GOH Maintenance. Mr. Urben noted they
are working with GOH Foundation staff in identifying several items that may need
replacement in the near future including the circa 1985 main hall unit HVAC unit and
perhaps the wool carpet that is also circa 1985. Mr. Ferlo also suggested the stage floor
should be considered in the near future as it is also in poor shape and may need replacing.
Mr. Urben noted all of the items would be investigated more closely in the coming
months and he would keep the board updated if any are recommended for consideration
in the CIP budget.
NEW BUSINESS:
Under New Business it was noted the next meeting would be the annual Grand Opera
House walkthrough and would be held again at the Grand on August 19, 2013. More
details on that meeting would be sent out as the date nears.
There being no other business, it was motioned by Rogge and seconded by Lowe that the
Grand Opera House Advisory Board adjourn at 6:35 p.m. Motion carried unanimously.
Respectfully Submitted,
Jon Urben, Secretary
