1)How hard is it to dart animals that aren’t contained? Don’t marksmen need
to be within 20 yards to get an accurate shot?
2)Who has done the darting in previous studies? What kind of training was
provided?
3)When using contraception in order to control deer population, how do you
know which deer have been administered the vaccine?
4)If using contraceptive darts with dye makers to mark the deer that have been
vaccinated, how long will the dye remain on the deer and is it waterproof?
5)What is the cost for vaccinating the deer with contraceptive darts with dye
markers?
6)If ear tags are used to mark the deer that have been vaccinated, what is the
cost per deer to apply the ear tags and vaccinate them?
7)Don’t you need a large-animal veterinarian on site to assist during darting
and any other associated procedures?
8)How long will deer contraceptive vaccines last?
9)Does the National Humane Society have any other suggestions for the city of
Oshkosh on how to control the deer population, since deer contraceptive
vaccines are currently not approved for use in Wisconsin by the Wisconsin
DNR?
10)If we can provide you with a count of the deer population, what would the
approximate cost share be for Oshkosh to be the site for a pilot research
study?
