ADVISORY BOARD OF THE OSHKOSH SENIORS CENTER
MEETING MINUTES SEPTEMBER 24, 2012
PRESENT:
Cindy Glatz, Xandy Kloeckl, Judy Pierson, Dale Sonnenberg, Rick Picard, John
Hauser, Gary Konrad, Roberta Messer, Bob Cornell
EXCUSED:
Cynthia Thorpe, Barbara Goldthwaite, Ann Marie Kosek, Judy Smith

Bob Cornell, President, called the meeting to order at 1:03 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Bob asked for a motion to approve the August meeting minutes. Roberta moved to
approve the minutes as written. Dale seconded. All were in favor; meeting minutes
approved as written.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
FUND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE:
Dale reported no meeting was held in September. No other report.
GOVERNANCE COMMITTEE
Bob stated that Judy Smith was not available today and therefore asked other members
to report.
Gary indicated we should provide the board with the recommendations for the bylaw
changes.
Roberta referred the committee to review the Bylaw changes that were handed out today.
She reviewed each of the changes per section of the bylaws. Once all the changes were
reviewed, Roberta made a motion to approve the suggested changes. Bob accepted the
motion and asked for discussion. Dale stated in the first paragraph the word Department
should be changed to Division to reflect the departmental changes of Senior Services.
Roberta then amended her motion to include the referenced change. Cindy G. seconded
the motion; all were in favor. The Bylaw changes were approved.
Dale referenced last month’s discussion regarding having a secretary for the board.
Kathy stated that since the Governance committee did not meet in September this would
be carried over on the agenda for their next meeting.
FRIENDS OF THE OSHKOSH SENIORS CENTER (FOSC) REPORT:
Judy P. reported the Friends have not yet met this month and therefore she does not
have a report.
COMMITTEE ON AGING (COA) REPORT:
Due to the Committee’s election being conducted via e-mail, a live vote was conducted at
the last meeting to verify the results of the election. Xandy reported the committee still

has one vacant position.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT:
Bob thanked all who volunteered and in other ways supported the Fall Family Fun Fest.

He reminded the board that the next meeting would be on October 29 as there are five
weeks in October.
Bob also asked for the board members to come out and participate in or even just sign up
for the Granny Smith.
SENIORS CENTER MANAGER’S REPORT:
Mark reviewed the Fall Family Fun Fest financial report and raffle winners.
Raffle Prizes: Roger Dehn won the TV; Jan Picard won the Kindle Fire; Judy

Wertz won the Blue Harbor Resort package.
Top Raffle Ticket Sales: Jean Neal – 169 tickets; Nancy Patterson – 54 tickets;
o
Bob Cornell – 36 tickets
Total Tickets Sold by Board: FOSC – 295; Staff – 171; Advisory Board – 135;
o
COA – 24
Increased profit by almost $4,000 this year. Much of this came from Julie’s effort in
o
finding donations for the Silent Auction and Sponsors for the event.
Mark echoed Bob’s thank you for all that assisted with the Fall Fest and also encouraged
participation in the Granny Smith.
Mark reported that both the Senior Connection and Retired Senior Volunteer Program
Coordinator positions have been filled. We are hoping that they will be on campus within
the next week.
Last week taped the next two months of our Senior Savvy show. Mark again asked if
anyone was interested in being a part of this. We will always accept volunteers to be on
the show or even work behind the scenes.
Parks & Seniors Center Staff toured each other’s facilities.
Seven Human Services Students from UWO will be volunteering 30 hours each over the
next several weeks. They will assist with various projects throughout the Center.
Transit will be marking the area running along the North Building with three more
handicap parking stalls and 1 more in the main row.
Bob asked about the resurfacing of the parking lots. Mark was not exactly sure but

thought we were on the plan for next year.

This year’s Holiday Parade is on November 15.
Ron Seip is working with Ron Schmitz in the woodshop creating a sleigh and we
o
are seeking other volunteers to assist with painting.
If you would like to join us in walking for the parade, please let Kathy know.

Mark will be attending Leadership Oshkosh this year. He was at the kickoff retreat last
week.
Once again the Seniors Center assisted with more of the Christine Ann Center silhouettes
for Domestic Abuse Awareness Month.
The Stars and Stripes Nut Cracker that is sitting at City Hall was completed by one of our
very own woodshop workers. We will be hoping to have it on display at the Seniors
Center for special events in the future.

Dale motioned to adjourn the meeting. Gary seconded; all were in favor. Meeting was
adjourned.
