SENIOR SERVICES MANAGER COMMENTS:  Recognition of Downtown Business District Flower Pots There was an article in the Current and the Chamber of Commerce newsletter o thanking the Oshkosh Seniors Center volunteers for their commitment to the downtown flower pots. They look wonderful.  Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP) The position on campus is currently vacant. They are looking at a replacement o and we are hoping to move forward with the partnership.  Lutheran Social Service (LSS) The Senior Connection position is currently open. They are doing interviews o this week and we will hope to see someone back on our campus soon. th  4 of July Parade We did have a presence in the parade in July and will be gearing up soon for o the Holiday Parade.  Fitness Coordinator Looking at hiring a ½ time Fitness Coordinator o This position would oversee the Fitness Center and maintain exercise  classes. Currently the Business Success Center at the University is assisting us  in finding students to assist in teaching classes.  Budget This year we were asked to project a 5% decrease in our 2013 budget. This is o contingent on the state funding. We will not likely see these numbers before November.  Fall Family Fun Fest / Granny Smith Please join us for these upcoming events and show your support of the Seniors o Center.  Senior Savvy We are revisiting the name of program and are always seeking new ideas and o would welcome anyone that would be interested in being on camera or behind the scenes.  Program Coordinator Carrie Ottum started a few weeks ago. This has brought the Center up to a full o staff. Excited to see where we can go from here!  Fisk Gallop Fund This fund was set up many years ago to assist individuals in Oshkosh with their o healthcare needs. Due to the merge of the Health Departments it was determined that the Seniors o Center would handle the distribution of these funds. This is something that staff is working on to define our guidelines. NEW BUSINESS  Slate of Officers / Election Due to the election being done via absentee ballots. We would like to vote to o approve the election results. Clark moved to approve the results. Deanie seconded. All were in favor, election results approved. Peggy Bellin, President; Julie Hert, Vice President; Judy Richey, Secretary.  Potential Members Currently we have three openings. Please brainstorm any connections you o may have. If you know of someone you think may be interested, please have them call and speak with Mark. Applications are available from Jackie Challis at City Hall. OLD BUSINESS  Bylaws Mark didn’t have an opportunity to discuss the bylaws regarding the number of o individuals required for a quorum with the City Attorney. He will continue to pursue this and discuss this at the next meeting.  Planning Session For future meetings we will be inviting different speakers from local o organizations to come and speak with us about what they view as senior needs in our community. From there, we would like someone from this community to research the  issue and bring back information to discuss with the full committee. At that point we can discuss how we can be a resource for individuals in  the community facing these issues as we can’t develop new programs but we can educate and provide resources. This led to further discussion regarding ways in which we could be a resource. o One suggestion was to once again hold a conference with different speakers coming out to educate people. Another suggestion was a guide that would answer questions or lead individuals in the right direction for their questions to be answered. COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS/CONCERNS: NONE NEXT MEETING:  October 2 at 8:00 a.m.  Will invite a speaker for this meeting, possibly a discharge planner. ADJOURNMENT:  Deanie motioned to adjourn the meeting; Lurton seconded the motion; all were in favor. Meeting was adjourned. Respectively Submitted, Kathy Snell Lead Office Assistant, Senior Services
