Oshkosh, WI 54902 Mark Ziemer (920) 232-5300 (920) 232-5307 FAX Director, Senior Services OSHKOSH COMMITTEE ON AGING (COA) MINUTES June 5, 2012 PRESENT: Kim Bauer, Peg Bellin, Judy Richey, Julie Hert, Claude Benedict, Lurton Blassingame, Jesse Fillmore, Deanie Minnear, Clark Seibold, Kathy Glander, Xandy Kloeckl EXCUSED: Deb Pahl ABSENT: GUEST: Dale Finneaur, Facilitator; Bob Cornell, Advisory Board President STAFF: Mark Ziemer, Director of Senior Services; Kathy Snell, Administrative Assistant Meeting called to order by Peggy at 8:03 a.m. INTRODUCTIONS: Mark asked that we do brief introductions as there are newly appointed committee members today. NEW MEMBER INTRODUCTION: Mark introduced Clark Seibold, Deanie Minnear, and Julie Hert. He also introduced Dale Finneaur as today’s facilitator and welcomed Bob Cornell to sit in on the meeting. PROCESS:  Why are we here Represent senior community o Opportunity to learn o Assist with coordination of community groups o  What has the City charged us with Charge to coordinate services o Difficult to accomplish with no budget in place   What has been done Work with groups in the community to identify current needs (transportation  / isolation)  Challenges Getting information to individuals o No funds o Doubling numbers of seniors o  Future Focus Publicize current resources today o Identify unmet needs currently o Identify unmet future needs o Identify gaps – what are people not going to receive / benefit from  Put tension on the system o Make recommendations on publicizing and closing the gaps   Plan of Action Brainstorm how to find needs / collect data o Meet with Mayor to inform him of the identified focus o Invite individuals in the community who work with older adults to the COA meeting o Discharge planners  Advocap (lower income)  ADRC  UWO  United Way / Community Foundation   Next Meeting Schedule meeting with Mayor Burke to address what the COA is looking to do and o invite to full board meeting Identify data sources o Select a President o Make a timeline of activities o  Other thoughts How to get the word out o Brochures  College radio stations  Motivating organizations to get information to their groups  Consolidate list of services   ADRC  United Way 211  Winnebago County Teach people how to use the network  Establish subcommittees o Publicity  Gap Analysis  Respectively Submitted, Kathy Snell Administrative Assistant, Senior Services
