APPROVE MINUTES
Motion by Jan Scalpone and second by Samara Hamze to approve the minutes, as amended, from the last
meeting. Motion carried 4-0 (Bogden Muetzel and Poeschl absent).
CENTRAL GARAGE
The Board had a lengthy discussion on the proposed plans provided by Jon Wallenkamp of Kueny
Architects, LLC.
Mr. Wallenkamp stated he has a lot of experience with green design and that he plans to implement as many
green elements in the building as possible. He also stated the cost estimates for the building are about $9
million plus several million dollars for other items plus the cost of land acquisition and site remediation.
In addition, he stated he would be coming back in August to discuss the project with the Board again and
that it would be up to the City if the building was built for LEED certification or just built to LEED
standards.
The Board discussed topics including LCCA, performance contracting, wind or solar energy, use of the
Biodigester for heat, south-facing windows, landscaping, biofilters, permeable pavement, green roofs,
stormwater, greywater, CNG, reuse of existing structures/materials, geothermal, etc.
Bob Poeschl stated the SAB would like to see it LEED certified and that the Council wants to see what the
nd
paybacks will be. He also stated the April 2 minutes showing the recommendation as, “build the new
central garage to the highest possible LEED certification,” were incorrect.
Mr. Wallenkamp stated the City would need to determine if they want LEED certification very early.
BEST PRACTICES FOR EVENT PLANNERS
Samara Hamze stated she has been working on this with Margy Davey and has provided the Board with
some draft materials. She also stated she will take the Board’s comments into consideration, makes some
changes and bring this item back to the Board at a future meeting
BIODIGESTER TOUR
Michelle Bogden Muetzel stated she would send out a poll to determine a good date for the SAB to tour the
UWO Biodigester.
