Please write a concise statement which Dear City of Oshkosh Managers and Council; I•believe
describes why you wish to serve on the it's time to get serious about creating safety for
above Board/Commission. bicyclist, pedestrians and runners in Oshkosh. For
more than 10 years there has been a mandate to
establish a bicycle advisory subcommittee to the parks
board to oversee and advise the parks board bicycle
fund expenditures. I believe establishing the bicycle
City of Oshkosh Board/Commission Background Questionnaire Page 5 of 5
advisory subcommittee will help Oshkosh become the
safe and bike friendly community that it should be. I
can help with that important issue. In the last 8 years I
know of at least 6 cyclists who have been hit and
seriously injured by motorists in Oshkosh, including
myself. One cyclist was killed by a motorist in
Oshkosh. Establishing this advisory subcommittee will
go a long way in preventing more injuries and deaths. I
know from experience how dangerous it is to ride in
Oshkosh. I've been biking through this city for 28
years. I understand what makes it dangerous compared
to our surrounding communities and I also have some
simple ideas that would quickly and inexpensively
make Oshkosh a safer place to ride, walk and run in.
As founder and president of the Oshkosh Cycling Club
I have been asked to seek a position on the Bicycle
Advisory Subcommittee, which has yet to be formed.
The Oshkosh cycling and running community would
like to have representation on this advisory
subcommittee by someone who actually rides a bike in
this city on a daily basis. I have that experience and
understand the dangers of cycling through this city,
first hand. I also have extensive community
organization experience. The Oshkosh Cycling
Community and I are here to help in any way we can
to make Oshkosh a safe and bike friendly community.
On behalf of the Oshkosh Cycling Club and cycling
community, please accept my request to be on the
Bicycle Advisory subcommittee. Thank you for your
consideration- Sincerely, Brian Kienert,President of
the Oshkosh Cycling Club
