CITY CLERK'S OFFICE
The annual Lake States Logging Congress & Equipment Expo is sponsored by the Great Lakes Timber
Professionals Association (GLTPA), headquartered in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, and has been a forest
products industry standard for 66 years. The first Logging Congress occurred on November 1 & 2, 1945
in Houghton, Michigan, and in 1948 the event began the practice of adding different locations to
encourage greater exposure and participation. Now it its 67th year, the Logging Congress & Equipment
Expo events have been known to attract over 300 exhibitor booths, 3,500 attendees daily, and cover
875,000 square feet.
The Expo is designed to have vendors display and promote all products used in the forestry, wood, and
construction industry. Through demonstrations and exhibits, attendees promote the rapid change in
technology and enable customers to analyze and compare products at one location. The goal of the
show is also to foster education for attendees. The forest product industry is often criticized with
misunderstandings about the importance of forestry and the need to have a dependable infrastructure
to support the economy,
Over 200 indoor and outdoor exhibitors attend each year to showcase the best Log Splitters, Portable
Sawmills, Compact Tractors & Logging, Equipment, Implements, Chainsaw Carving, Wood /Pellet Stove
i?ealers and much, much more.
The show isn't all business, however. Logging Congress is often referred to as the "logger's holiday" and
provides a more relaxed setting to allow for networking. In addition to viewing the exhibits, many
industry members and their families enjoyed their time together by participating in family - friendly
activities.
For additional entertainment, contests are available to allow for hands -on participation, they included,
sawing contests, forwarder operator and log loader contests, tug -of war, bowling pin toss and a well -
attended Presidents Kickoff event highlight the event schedule.
The event also helps the host area in many ways, in addition to being a popular event for and supported
by residents, Logging Congress attracts guests from outside of the area to the host city. This gives the
city a chance to showcase the best of what their community has to offer. An attendee might experience
the community for the first time and consider it as a place to visit or live in the future.
