HomeMy WebLinkAbout19. 12-188 APRIL 24, 2012 12-188 RESOLUTION (CARRIED__6-1___LOST_______LAID OVER________WITHDRAWN_____) PURPOSE: ACCEPT DONATION FOR MENOMINEE PARK BALL FIELD #8 IMPROVEMENTS – OSHKOSH RECREATION DEPARTMENT SOFTBALL COMMISSION INITIATED BY: PARKS DEPARTMENT WHEREAS a donation has been made by Oshkosh Recreation Department Softball Commission for improvements to Field #8 at Menominee Park site; WHEREAS, it is appropriate for the Common Council to acknowledge and accept such donation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, by the Common Council of the City of Oshkosh that, on behalf of the residents of this community, the City accepts with deep gratitude and appreciation the generous donation from Oshkosh Recreation Department Softball Commission to the Menominee Park site and that the proper City officials are authorized and directed to take those steps necessary to accept this donation for the purposes designated. City of Oshkosh Parks Department 805 Witzel Ave., PO Box 1130 Ray Maurer 01-1-1" J 9201 236 5080 5490 FAX Director ON THE WATER TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the Common Council FROM: Ray Maurer, Parks Director DATE: April 19, 2012 RE: Menominee Park Field #8 Improvements Donation BACKGROUND With the construction of the Melvin Avenue pump station in Menominee Park completed,Parks Department staff has been working with Engineering Department staff on the reorientation and reconstruction of ball field#8 that was displaced during construction. This field has been used by the Recreation Department for league play,various adult softball tournaments,youth tournaments and Webster Stanley School for physical education classes and recess. ANALYSIS A portion of the player fees paid by all of the adult softball players participating in the Recreation Department softball leagues goes into a Field Maintenance/Improvement Fund held by the Recreation Department. Field maintenance and improvement needs are reviewed at least annually by the Parks Department and the Recreation Department,as well as the Softball Commission which is a committee of the Recreation Department's adult softball league representatives. These entities have worked collaboratively in the past on various field improvements and this project is another example of that partnership. FISCAL IMPACT The Recreation Department/Softball Commission is donating$6,000 toward the reorientation/reconstruction of field#8 at Menominee Park. The donation will be used to fund a majority of the infield mix necessary for the field. City staff will be installing the mix. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends the Common Council accept the donation of$6,000 for the Menominee Park field #8 reorientation/reconstruction.
