RE: Menominee Park Field #8 Improvements Donation
BACKGROUND
With the construction of the Melvin Avenue pump station in Menominee Park completed,Parks Department
staff has been working with Engineering Department staff on the reorientation and reconstruction of ball
field#8 that was displaced during construction. This field has been used by the Recreation Department for
league play, various adult softball tournaments, youth tournaments and Webster Stanley School for physical
education classes and recess.
ANALYSIS
A portion of the player fees paid by all of the adult softball players participating in the Recreation
Department softball leagues goes into a Field Maintenance/Improvement Fund held by the Recreation
Department. Field maintenance and improvement needs are reviewed at least annually by the Parks
Department and the Recreation Department,as well as the Softball Commission which is a committee of the
Recreation Department's adult softball league representatives. These entities have worked collaboratively in
the past on various field improvements and this project is another example of that partnership.
FISCAL IMPACT
The Recreation Department/Softball Commission is donating$6,000 toward the reorientation/reconstruction
of field#8 at Menominee Park. The donation will be used to fund a majority of the infield mix necessary for
the field. City staff will be installing the mix.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the Common Council accept the donation of$6,000 for the Menominee Park field #8
reorientation/reconstruction.
