RE: Mary Jewell Park Ball Diamond Fencing/Renovation Donation
BACKGROUND
Parks Department staff has been working with the Oshkosh Youth Baseball(OYB)to identify improvements
necessary at various baseball fields to improve safety and aesthetics. OYB utilizes the ball field at Mary
Jewell Park most nights of the week for either games or practices.
ANALYSIS
OYB received a proposal from Rammer Fence,Inc.,Oshkosh,to install a new backstop and sideline fence.
The proposal is for black vinyl coated chain link fence which is more aesthetically pleasing than standard
galvanized chain link fence. This is also similar fencing that the City has installed at other athletic facilities
recently. OYB would pay Rammer Fence,Inc. directly for the fence installation and then donate the project
to the City's Parks Department. The Parks Department would assume responsibility and future maintenance
for the fence similar to all other ball diamonds in the city. In addition, OYB will be working with a local
contractor to replace the existing infield mix with the same infield mix the City and OYB have been
installing on other ball fields throughout the city. The new mix improves safety as well as drainage. Parks
Department staff will work with OYB and the contractor to ensure that proper liability insurance is in place
for the project.
FISCAL IMPACT
OYB will be paying the entire cost of this project and then donating the project to the City's Parks
Department.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the Common Council accept the donation of the fence and infield renovation project at
Mary Jewell Park from the Oshkosh Youth Baseball.
Respectfully Submitted, Approved:
