Gohde, Assistant Director of Public Works DATE: February 9, 2012 RE: Change Order No. 1 for Public Works Contract No. 11-02 Westhaven Clubhouse Wet Detention Basin and Storm Sewer Carl Bowers &Sons Const. Co., Inc. (+$221,079.72) BACKGROUND Change Order No. 1 for Contract 11-02 is scheduled for consideration by the Common Council at the February 14, 2012 meeting. The contract was originally awarded to Carl Bowers & Sons Const. Co., Inc. in July of 2011. This change order is for additional services provided and for final quantities. ANALYSIS Following is a summary of the significant changes to each section of the CIP: • Storm Sewer—The detention basin required additional clay liner construction, and importing of clay liner material due to unexpected site conditions. Additional water main offsets were required to accommodate storm sewer construction. • Sanitary Sewer— Rebuild 14 sanitary manholes to reduce infiltration and inflow of groundwater into the sanitary sewer system. This work was not part of the project scope but warranted correction while adjacent pavement was removed. Therefore, there are adequate funds available in the Storm Sewer section of the 2011 Capital Improvement Budget. The construction cost of the Sanitary Sewer portions of the 2011 projects is approximately $1,040,000 under the amount budgeted in the CIP. Therefore, there are adequate funds available in the Storm Sewer section of the 2011 Capital Improvement Budget. RECOMMENDATIONS I recommend approval of Change Order No. 1 to Contact No. 11-02 in the amount of +$221,079.72 to Carl Bowers & Sons Const. Co., Inc.
