HomeMy WebLinkAboutWeekly Newsletter Date: September 9, 2011 To: Mayor & City Council From: Mark A. Rohloff, City Manager WEEKLY NEWSLETTER Subject: CITY CENTER PARKING RAMP 1.: The city contracted with a consultant this spring to perform an assessment of the maintenance and repair needs of the City Center parking ramp over the next ten years. I am enclosing a spreadsheet that shows their analysis of the costs associated with repair, as well as long-term maintenance. The "repair" items are items of deferred maintenance, which the consultant deemed necessary to restore the ramp to a state of good repair. Purchasing staff have been working with the Transportation Department to issue a bid to execute all of the first year repair items identified in this table. This will be going out to bid next week, with work scheduled to be completed later this year. If you have any questions concerning the City Center parking ramp, please feel free to contact either Purchasing Agent Jon Urben or Transportation Director Chris Strong. SUMMARY OF CITY SERVICES PROVIDED & BILLED TO EAA 2.: Please find enclosed a memorandum, which provides the details on city services provided and the amounts billed to EAA for those services. As you may recall, EAA has a five-year agreement with the city in accordance with the special events ordinance. This specific agreement states that EAA will be billed actual costs based upon the services provided in each given year. The memo is self-explanatory, but I wanted you to know that I will be reporting this information to you on an annual basis. If you have any questions concerning any of the amounts billed, please feel free to contact me. TH NEW INTERN TO BEGIN WORK ON SEPTEMBER 12 3.: I am pleased to announce that I th have hired an intern position that will begin work on Monday, September 12. Mr. Brian Cameron has recently completed the requirements for his Masters in Public Administration (MPA) degree from the University of Northern Michigan, and was most recently interning at the City of Nagaunee, Michigan. My plans are currently to utilize Mr. Cameron in a rotation through the Departments of Administrative Services, Finance, Public Works, and one department to be determined based upon Mr. Cameron's interest and departmental needs. Mr. Cameron will be on board with us for approximately one year while he serves in these rotational assignments. I've wanted to make use of an intern in this capacity for some time now, and I believe Mr. Cameron's background and previous intern experience will serve the organization well. I will take the opportunity to introduce Mr. Cameron to Council Members and staff in the coming weeks as he joins our organization.
