HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutesMINUTES SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY BOARD June 6, 2011 Present: Steve Barney, Kim Biedermann, Michelle Bogden Muetzel, Bob Breest, Justin Mitchell, Bob Poeschl, Jan Scalpone, Allan Siman Excused: Margy Davey Staff: Robin Leslie, Principal Planner and Jon Urben, Director of General Services CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Chair Justin Mitchell. PUBLIC COMMENT None APPROVE MINUTES Motion by Jan Scalpone and second by Bob Breest to approve the minutes from the last meeting. Motion carried 6 -0 ( Poeschl abstaining / Siman absent). STREET WIDTH WORKSHOP Chair Mitchell reminded the Board that he will be presenting at a street width workshop with the Council on June 14 at 5:15 p.m. in Room 404. He said his presentation will be based on the resolution the Board approved in April. ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE PURCHASING POLICY Jon Urben presented the Board with a draft of the Environmentally Responsible Purchasing Policy. Mr. Mitchell directed the Board to take a look at the policy and email any comments to Robin Leslie by July 12 These comments will then be addressed by Mr. Urben and this item will be discussed at the August meeting. MENOMINEE PARK BEACH WATER MONITORING Robin Leslie stated Parks Director Ray Maurer said beach testing will continue this year through UWO and that signs will be posted by the bath house. She also stated there was an issue with a stolen warning /closure sign, but that sign would be replaced for any closures. SHORELAND RESTORATION PROPOSAL Justin Mitchell stated this plan was approved last year but the action language was removed in the Park Plan. He stated he would like the Board to revisit the plan with the Parks Department and that a meeting will be set up with the Parks Director to discuss. FARMER'S MARKET Dennis and Karlene Leatherman, Oshkosh Farmer's Market managers, presented the Board with information about the 2011 Farmer's Market. They stated the market will run from June 4 th to October 22" d rain or shine, in its new location at the 400 & 500 blocks of Main Street. Because of the slow gardening start this year, they stated some of the usual produce will be late and they had a few booth cancellations. Also, they stated EBT transactions will be available by July 1 st SUSTAINABILITY PLAN Robin Leslie stated the content of the plan has been approved by the Steering Committee and that the editing and formatting of the document will be completed next. She requested that the Board approve the plan so that she may schedule the next steps of the plan consideration, which are workshops with the Plan Commission and Council, and public meetings for public comment. Steve Barney suggested that the ICLEI resolution number be added to the document as the U.S. Mayor's CPA has been included on page 38. Robin Leslie stated she would find a place for it in the document. Motion by Kim Biedermann and second by Bob Poeschl to approve the 2011 Sustainability Plan. Motion carried 8 -0. NEXT MEETING MONDAY, AUGUST 1st Chair Mitchell reminded the Board there would be no meeting in July and the next regularly scheduled meeting is Monday, August 1 st at 4:00 pm. ADJOURN Motion by Allan Siman and second by Bob Breest to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried 8 -0. Meeting adjourned at 5:30 pm.
