RE: OFD 19 Vehicle Storage Building
BACKGROUND
The Common Council approved $229,000 in the 2010 CIP Program for the construction of a
vehicle storage building adjacent to Fire House 19 on Snell Road. This 4,800 square foot
building will provide for storage of Oshkosh Fire Department ancillary vehicles, equipment and
trailers.
ANALYSIS
Working in conjunction with the project architect and Fire Department personnel, Purchasing
reviewed and prepared bid specifications for the building construction work of this project. Bids
were advertised in the local paper and opened on July 14, 2011. The bid tab is attached with
three bids. A fourth bid was rejected for not meeting bid specifications. After reviewing the bids,
it is the consensus of the project architect and City staff that the low bid of $150,424.00 from
Morton Buildings, Inc. met the bid specifications for the construction of this building.
FISCAL IMPACT
The fiscal impact of this building construction bid is $150,424 and would be charged to account
number 323 - 0230 - 7214 - 06017. The balance of funds ($78,576) allocated for this project will
cover all remaining project cost areas including architectural /engineering services, earthwork and
site development, civil engineering services for stormwater /drainage /grading/erosion, electrical
supplies, HVAC work and state plan fees.
RECOMMENDATION
The project architect and City staff recommend the building construction bid for this project be
awarded to Morton Buildings, Inc. for $150,424.
Respectfully Submitted,
