HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-23-11 BOH MinutesOSHKOSH BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING MINUTES February 23, 2011 Members Present: Jamie Bonell, Steve Herman, Stan Kline, Christine Kniep, Susan Panek, and Mardell Sowers Members Absent: none Staff Present: Mark Ziemer, Administrative Supervisor; Denise Krueger, Interim Health Officer; and Mary Capen, Recording Secretary The Oshkosh Board of Health Meeting was called to order at 7:35 a.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, in Room 404 of City Hall by Chairperson Stan Kline. Chairperson Kline called for approval of the December 15, 2010 Meeting Minutes. Motion Second Vote : Kniep; : Panek; : Unanimous. Kline noted Winnebago County Public Health personnel should be moving into their new quarters this week. The Winnebago County Public Health Consolidation Study has progressed with meetings between Baker Tilly representatives and Department Heads/Health Officers from the four Public Health departments. Baker Tilly representatives met with a member of the Oshkosh City Council as well as the majority of the Oshkosh Board of Health members. The meeting with the sanitarians has been th rescheduled for March 8 due to the snowstorm on Monday. Meetings between Baker Tilly and Public Health nurses as well as clerical staff were held Tuesday. The overall project is expected to take 16 weeks. Looking forward for public health, 2011 is seen as a transition year with 2012 focusing on population based activities, though not to the exclusion of required individual activities. There was discussion and ideas shared on what the future may hold for public health and the direction it might take. Ziemer updated the Board on the status of positions within the health department, stating there soon should be a part-time clerical person to help the nurses, and the lab position will soon be filled so that Mary Burns will be able to move into her new role as Public Health Nurse (PHN). The preparedness position will remain vacant through August and then be addressed as an effort to regionalize preparedness is explored. Ziemer is also looking to hire a Health Educator.
