To anchor, insert 1 /2" x 5" steel dowels into holes, and set posts into position. Wood posts may also be secured with 4" angle brackets. Ornamental iron posts may be secured to existing floor with lead shields or fasteners. If no suitable floor exists, concrete footings should be poured around adjustable post bases specified by your dealer. Rafters may either be set on front and back headers and secured or for a neater appearance be notched as shown in diagrams 2 & 3. Rafters may be secured to front and rear headers with nails or commercial connections. 7. Proper Ventilation Plan your Ornyte roof to allow a minimum of 7'4" - height from the floor to the bottom of the front header. Allow ventilation space between your house wall and the cross braces nearest it — 6" space if your roof projection is 8' to 12', and 8" if the projection is more than 12'. Should the house eaves not extend sufficiently to cover the open ventilation space, a ventilation hood maybe constructed, using 2" x 4" lumber and Ornyte panels (this improvised overhang is simply a miniature version of an Ornyte roof). Note: When planning your Ornyte roof structure, remember to allow a minimum of 1 /4" pitch (from house wall to front header) for each foot of roof - projection. A 1" pitch per foot is recommended it heavy snow areas. 2. Front Header Join the header to wooden header post with 4" angle brackets, nailed or screwed to the header; and nailed or screwed to (or bolted through) the header post. A14T;E: Bottom of header should be a minimum of 7'4" i the floor for best ventilation, 3. Back Header For frame or stucco wal Is, fasten header with nails or lag screws to studs of the house wall. For brick or masonry walls, use a star drill or mortar bit and insert lead shields or tampons. NOTE: To determine proper height, allow a 1" minimum pitch per foot of distance between front and rear headers for adequate drainage. Use same size lumber as rafters. Braces should be spaced every 3 ft. for Ornyte Type 400 & 420, every 4 ft. for type 450 & 700. Cross bracing should be nailed directly to or ^ailed or screwed to rafters with angle brackets to 'ters. Top edges of bracing and rafters must be flush. Afterall bracing is in place, nail Ornyte corrugated redwood molding on headers and cross - braces, and nail Ornyte crested molding strips on rafters. Now paint or stain all framework before installing the Ornyte fiberglass panels. Lay the first panel on the corner away from the usual wind direction, so that the wind will blow over, not under, the overlapped panels. After inserting Ornyte liquid mastic between for a water -tight seal. When all panels are in place, square them up evenly and nail at the crown of corrugation; ever 12 "along rafters; every second orthird corrugatiL along bracing. It is best to pre -drill all holes with a ' /s" drill bit to avoid craze marks. Use Ornyte aluminum screw -grip nails and Ornyte Neoprene washers.
