Box 1130 Oshkosh, Wisconsin 54903 -1130 City of Oshkosh - iHKOfH TO: Honorable Mayor and Members of the Common Council FROM: Jon Urben, General Services Director DATE: March 1, 2011 RE: Forestry Division 2.5 Ton Dump Truck Chassis BACKGROUND The Common Council approved and allocated $80,000 in the 2011 CIP to purchase a 2.5 ton dump truck chassis and dump body. This new unit will replace a 1994 Ford F700 truck that has 48,000 miles, widespread structural decay and increasing repair costs. The new unit will have increased safety features and warranty coverage including basic, corrosion, engine and transmission. ANALYSIS Working in conjunction with the Forestry Division, Purchasing reviewed and prepared proposals seeking vendors for the truck chassis. Bid requests were sent to vendors who have received invitations to bids in previous years. In addition the bids were advertised in the local paper and posted online on NovusVendor. Bids were received February 14, 2011. The bid tabulation is attached. Working with the Forestry Division, Purchasing reviewed the bids and concluded the low bid from L & S Truck Center and met the minimum bid specifications for the truck chassis. FISCAL IMPACT The truck chassis and dump body were budgeted in the 2011 CIP major equipment replacement at $80,000. This bid only solicited vendors for the truck chassis. The dump body bid will be solicited after the truck chassis bid has been awarded. With trade -in this truck chassis will have a net fiscal impact of $53,063. Funding for this item would be charged to CIP account: 323 -0620- 7210- 06109. This will leave $26,937 for the dump body, which should be adequate funding for that purchase. RECOMMENDATION Purchasing recommends the Common Council award the bid to L & S Truck Center for $53,063.
