GRAND OPERA HOUSE ADVISORY BOARD
M I N U T E S
NOVEMBER 15, 2010
ROXY SUPPER CLUB
Present: Diane Popowski, Mary Louise Lewis, Marvin Mengeling, Braxton Patterson,
Marilyn Rogge, Burk Tower, Vivian Foss and Marilyn Haberkorn. Barbara Baier, Diane
Lowe and Jon Urben were excused. Also present were Assistant City Manager/Director
of Administrative Services John Fitzpatrick and Grand Opera House Executive Director
Joe Ferlo.
CALL TO ORDER:
Chairperson Rogge called the meeting to order at 7:10 P.M. Chairperson Rogge noted
that Keith Sparr notified her that he would no longer be able to serve on the board and
would be resigning immediately. Many thanks were given to Mr. Sparr’s contributions to
the Grand Opera House Advisory Board and the Grand.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 16, 2010 MEETING:
It was motioned by Patterson, seconded by Lewis, that the August 16, 2010, minutes be
approved as presented. Motion carried unanimously.
UPDATE: GRAND OPERA HOUSE FOUNDATION, JOE FERLO
Mr. Ferlo presented the following updates from the Grand Opera House Foundation:
The Grand received an award from the Chamber of Commerce;
The recently installed hearing loop microphones/equipment need to be tweaked;
The fire alarm bugs have been worked out;
The Foundation is in the process of raising funds for additional Lounge furniture.
He also addressed several questions from the Grand Opera House Advisory Board,
including:
Lounge drink prices are comparable to prices charged at the Appleton PAC;
Drinks are being allowed to be brought into the theatre from the Lounge (this
practice was in place prior to the repairs/renovation);
Five caterers have been used for Lounge events including the Roxy, LaSure’s, the
Vintage, Lara’s and Beckets.
The Lounge has been used approximately six times for non-performance events.
UPDATE: GRAND OPERA HOUSE, JOHN FITZPATRICK
Mr. Fitzpatrick noted he had no updates but did ask Mr. Ferlo if all the Grand
maintenance items have been addressed as part of the repairs/renovations. Mr. Ferlo
noted all maintenance issues have been addressed and are up to date.
NEW BUSINESS: ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Lewis nominated Chairperson Rogge to be Chair of the Grand Opera House Advisory
Board. Chairperson Rogge declined and nominated Lewis to be Chairperson. No
additional nominations for chairperson were received. By unanimous vote Mary Louise
Lewis was elected Chairperson of the Grand Opera House Advisory Board. Lewis then
nominated Haberkorn to be Vice-Chairperson. No additional nominations for vice-
chairperson were received. By unanimous vote Marilyn Haberkorn was elected Vice-
Chairperson for the Grand Opera House Advisory Board. It was noted these positions
would become effective at the February board meeting.
There being no other business, it was motioned by Braxton and seconded by Popowski
that the Grand Opera House Advisory Board adjourn at 7:40 p.m. Motion carried
unanimously.
