Riding the bus is good for our community: • It reduces air pollution. • It saves energy. • It decreases traffic congestion. • It offers alternative transportation when needed 2. Riding the bus is good for you: • It saves you money. • It reduces stress. • It improves and protects the personal health of all Americans. • It assures better access to essential medical services. • It's 170 times safer than automobile travel. • On average it annually saves you 4,700 automobile miles. TRANSIT IN THE OSHKOSH AREA Two transit services are operated in the City of Oshkosh. One is the Oshkosh Transit System, traditional bus and paratransit service operated by the City. The other is Titan Transit, a pilot program offered in 2008 -2009 by UW Oshkosh. 1. The Oshkosh Transit System: offers regular bus services as well as paratransit service for elderly and disabled. Bus service is provided primarily within the city limits Monday through Saturday from 6:15 a.m to 6:15 p.m. One intercity bus route operates to Neenah. All but one route originates and terminates at the Transit Center located on High Street just west of Main Street. Wheelchair lifts are available on all buses. The Transit System also operates reduced fare taxi and Cabulance door service for seniors and disabled individuals. Bus schedules are available at the Transit Center. Titan Transit extends bus service to some areas of the city past 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. As of fall, 2008, the bus is available from 6 -10 p.m, stopping at city bus stops. There are three routes: north side route, west side route, and frontage road route. In addition, a late night safe ride program runs from 10 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday through Saturday night. Stops are made on campus, to north side off - campus housing and downtown. Students are free; others are $.75. Kobussen operates the bus. The university is currently printing brochures with more detailed times and stops. Contact ?? ADDITIONAL TRANSIT INFORMATION • For current bus routes, visit www.cl.oshkosh.wl.us /Transit /Bus_Routes.htm • Cash Fare (6 years of age and over) $ 0.75; Senior Citizen (60 years of age and over) $ 0.25; Disabled $ 0.25; Children under 6 years of age FREE • Transit Punch Pass (20 rides) $15.00 - can be purchased from all drivers and at the Transit Office. There is no expiration date. • Monthly Pass (unlimited rides) $20.00; Three Month Passes $50.00 (Available only at City Hall and Transit Office). Monthly passes can be purchased at most major banks, North and West High Schools, City Hall, the Oshkosh Senior Center and at the Transit Office. • EAA Shuttle (during EAA convention only) $ 5.00 (round trip); Oshkosh - Neenah Route $1.50 • UW -O students, faculty, and staff ride free on all Oshkosh Transit System buses by showing their TitanCard with photo ID. This includes # 10 Neenah with connections to Appleton via Valley Transit. • Getting On: Go to the corner on which your bus operates or the closest bus stop sign. When you see the bus coming, step up to the curb wave the driver with your hand. Get aboard, pay your fare with exact change or a pass, and take a seat. Be ready a few minutes ahead of the scheduled time • Getting Off. About a half block before your bus stop, you should signal the driver that you wish the bus to stop at the next corner. There are pull cords located along and above each window that will signal the driver to stop. If another passenger has signaled your corner, you do not need to ring again. • Transfers: If you cannot get to your final destination on the first bus you get on, you will need to transfer to a second bus at the Transit Center. Transfers allow you to do this without paying the fare again. Any passenger may ask for a transfer when getting on the bus. Transfers are free, but must be used on the next bus leaving from the Transit Center. You should also tell the driver which bus you will be transferring to. • All Oshkosh Transit System buses can be lowered upon request to make boarding easier for children and adults, as well as disabled individuals.
