The proposed arrangement area is accessory. There is some question based on the info you sent me if the existing door out of the new work area is requried. As you noted it was inswing already. We have an existing building in Oshkosh (Hrnaks Flowerland) that would like to create a work room off the existing sales floor for making the floral arrangements. There is an existing exit door that will now be located in this room. Per section 1014.2 of the IBC code this new space could be considered accessory to the existing display area and therefore would not need to be rated and would be allowed to be exited through. Would you be in agreement? Also the existing exit door swings in. They were not planning on changing the door and the exiting path is staying the same other than having to go through the door of the work room. Would you require the door to swing out? Please let me know what you think. Cc: 'Andy Bonger; 'Tim Kent'; Ciabatti, Kevin J Subject: RE: Hrnaks Flowerland Nicole, Not having been involved in all the discussions for this project, I don't know how it was determined that the exit door to the exterior is required, and I would question the direction of this door swing. Additionally if you look at the commentary I'm not sure the "work room" is accessory to the display. There does not appear to be anything interrelated to these spaces that will not risk the doors being blocked. In any case since I am not doing a formal plan review, and have not been involved in all the discussions and consideration in this project and you are the inspector for this project I will leave it to you to work out with the contractor and designer. Please note that this room would not be allowed to be used for storage area as this was the original intention by the contractor.
