MEMORANDUM
TO: Park Advisory Board
FROM: Ray Maurer, Director of Parks
DATE: January 5, 2011
RE: January 10, 2011 meeting
Park Business
1.Discussion on dogs allowed on Sawyer Creek Park/Rusch Trails
The Parks Department has been contacted numerous times, as has the Police Department,
regarding issues related to dogs being allowed on Sawyer Creek Park/Rusch Trails. A citizen
from this neighborhood has requested that the Park Advisory Board discuss/hear these issues
and possibly consider changing the current city ordinance. Per city ordinance, domesticated
animals are allowed in this area as long as they are on a leash no longer than 6’ and are under
full control of their owner. Complaints we have received are dogs running at large, dog feces
being left behind, dogs being on the adjacent Carl Traeger School property, etc. I have spoke
with Carl Traeger School administrative staff and they have some concerns as well. I expect
neighbors and a school staff member to be in attendance to elaborate on these concerns. I
suggest the Board have initial discussion on this item at this meeting and if an ordinance
change is favored, that the ordinance change be considered at the February meeting. This will
also allow input from those who favor the current ordinance.
2.Recommend approval of Gift Policy to Common Council
The Board will discuss the draft Gift Policy prepared by the City Attorney. The purpose of the
policy is to provide a foundation including guidelines and procedures for considering and
receiving proposed donations to the City of Oshkosh. The City Attorney will be in attendance
to address any questions or concerns that the Board may have.
3.2010 Pollock Community Water Park Report
Staff will report on the 2010 Pollock Community Water Park season.
If you have any questions prior to the meeting or if you will not be able to attend, please
contact us at 236-5080. Thank you in advance.
