Re: Restoration of Fire Damaged House
Dear Ms. Helm;
A review of this file has revealed that progress has been slow toward restoring this
building to a habitable condition. The last inspection, in September revealed
several issues that needed to be addressed prior insulating or installing drywall.
Since this inspection in September these items have not been reinspected, and
therefore we assume this building is still in a non - habitable state. (If this is
incorrect, please call me at 236 - 5045.)
Since the fire occurred on February 25, 1996 and 9 months have passed without
completion of the fire restoration, this office must advise you that substantial
progress must be made (or verifiable arrangements to achieve substantial progress)
to prevent this office from issuing a Raze or Repair Order. This order, if issued
due to not making substantial and continued progress, would require you to
complete the repair work necessary to make the building habitable or to raze the
building within a given time frame, generally 30 -60 days from receipt of said
order. Be assured it is the City's intention to allow a reasonable time frame to
make the repairs before implementing the use of this order.
Occasionally, home owners have financial constraints that make it difficult to
make continued and substantial progress. In these cases we advise the property
owner to contact Susan Kepplinger, Principle Planner at 236 -5059 to inquire about
the City's Housing Rehabilitation program. Based on financial guidelines, a
property owner may be eligible for assistance to make necessary repairs to their
house. If you determine that you will be applying for this type of assistance,
please keep us advised on progress being made toward securing approval.
In any case you should be keeping in touch with our Residential Building
Inspector, Darryn Burich, 236 -5051, to keep him apprised of progress being made.
If there are other factors involved that we should be aware of that may have an
impact on your ability to make progress, please inform us of those also.
Sincerely;
Allyn Dannhoff
Director of Code Enforcement
