ENERGY EFFICIENCY SUBCOMMITTEE MEETING
MONDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2010 4:00 P.M.
MEETING NOTES
Present: Steve Barney, Margy Davey, Michelle Bodgen Muetzel
Staff: Darryn Burich
The meeting was called to order and a copy of the Focus on Energy Recommendation
Michelle drafted for us was distributed. Discussion on this recommendation centered
around whether the goal is to encourage the council to partner with Focus on Energy for
municipal needs, or to request the council be instrumental in promoting residential use of
Focus on Energy programs. The current recommendation focuses on municipal partnership;
it was agreed to put the recommendation on the SAB agenda as is, with possible revisions at
that point or an additional recommendation at a later date. Note: A request was made to, in
the future, provide any reading materials to be used during the meeting to all members
beforehand via email.
Margy shared info from a VHBA (Valley Home Builders Assn) green presentation sponsored
by ECOS that she attended in Menasha, and asked for a list of criteria to share with a poten-
tial Energy Star presenter from the Fox Valley. As Steve has a strong sense of what this pres-
entation should cover, he agreed to share that list before presenters are contacted. Steve has
also located a potential Energy Star presenter from the Chicago area, though with current
limited availability. Both Margy and Steve will continue to pursue locating an acceptable
speaker. We also discussed Passive Building as an additional source of knowledge for the
SAB, along with Energy Star and LEED.
Steve continues to volunteer his time for the GHG community inventory. The info already
input indicates that commercial emissions are highest, closely following by industrial.
Transportation and residential appear to be nearly equal, and much lower than commercial
and industrial. The inventory is nearing completion, providing a baseline for Oshkosh.
The next step in the ICLEI Milestones is to forecast and set targets for GHG reduction.
Darryn is working to get an ICLEI license for Steve so he can work from his own computer
instead of having to come to City Hall to input data.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 20 at 4:00 pm in Rm 404. The
Agenda will include Target Reduction Setting, and Energy Star presentation.
Respectfully submitted,
Margy Davey
