Dear Housing Inspector:
Would it be possible for someone from your office to check the prop-
erty at 36 Mill Street in the very near future?
It appears that three city regulations concerning property are being
ignored by the owner, and, as a result, the property has become both an
eyesore and a hazard. Those three regulations are - -----
1. The ordinance prohibiting the storage od accumulated trash, debris,
junk cars, and so forth on residential lots
Stored in the back yard of 36 Mill Street are piles of tree branches
in assorted sizes, tires, scraps of used lumber, old doors and
windows, kitchen furniture, a portable heating unit of some kind,
a snow plow, and a rusted out car, which although currently li-
censed, has stood in the driveway for approximately five months
with a wheel off. Yesterday another junker car was parked in the
driveway purportedly to remain only until it is dismantled.
2. The building code regulation requiring two exits for residential
units
'When the house was remodeled in 1984 -85, the rear exit from the
upper apartment opened onto a porch or balcony -type structure
(0, l' 14-
without a permanently affixed means of getting to ground level.
This spring a considerable portion of the porch let go from its
moorings, rendering it absolutely useless as a perch from which
to jump to safety. The apartment is occupied by the owner who
from time to time rents out a portion of his quarters.
3. The regulation requiring that a property owner must assume responsi-
bility for the removal of deadwood or of an entire tree if that tree
is a hazard.
A large, dying box elder stands in the front yard of the property.
With each wind, even though not of storm proportions, some branches
l2 fall from the tree along with a deluge of twigs. On June 24, a
blazing hot day with no breeze, a branch about eight inches in
diamenter suddenly snapped and hung precariously over the side-
walk and a Dodge Ram parked under the tree. A crew from the
forestry division removed the branch because it was a safety
w hazard. The threat of the consequences should this tree fall scares
me greatly.
I would very much appreciate a prompt official inspection of this
property. Without your intervention, I see little hope of improvement.
Sincerely,
Dora Kraft ZaW / 32 Mill Street
