HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutesMINUTES SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY BOARD September 13, 2010 Present: Steve Barney, Kimberly Biedermann, Michelle Bogden - Muetzel, Bob Breest, Margy Davey, Justin Mitchell, Bob Poeschl, Jan Scalpone Excused: Andrew Sabai Staff: Darryn Burich, Planning Director, Robin Leslie, Principal Planner, Shelly Reinke, Planning Assistant CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 4:00 pm by Chair Justin Mitchell. APPROVE MINUTES Motion by Jan Scalpone and second by Kimberly Biedermann to approve the minutes from the last meeting. Motion carried 8 -0. PUBLIC COMMENT None. UPDATE ON TRANSIT PLAN Chair Mitchell stated that Chris Strong would not be in attendance to give an update. Jan Scalpone stated she would like ECWRPC to attend the next meeting along with Mr. Strong to give the update. The Board agreed. Bob Poeschl stated he has transit plan implementation information he could forward to the Board if interested. UPDATE ON BIRD CITY USA Shelly Reinke gave an update on the Bird City USA application and resolution. Motion by Bob Poeschl and second by Bob Breest to accept the resolution as written and to forward to the Common Council. Motion carried 8 -0. UPDATE ON FOCUS ON ENERGY The Board directed the Energy Efficiency Subcommittee to work on a recommendation for Focus on Energy benefits. Steve Barney stated he would still like to see a presentation on ENERGY STAR and that he's looking into a possible webinar on the topic. SUSTAINABILITY TRAINING Chair Mitchell stated that UW- Extension would be providing a municipal staff focused training on November 4cn and December 16 He directed staff to work with the City Manager to form a team to attend. UPDATE ON URBAN CHICKENS The Board directed the Environmental Subcommittee to work on this issue. Darryn Burich stated that the Planning Division had already begun and that staff would attend the next subcommittee meeting. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS ENVIRONMENTAL Jan Scalpone stated there was no report but the next meeting would be on Monday, September 27 at 2:30 pm in Room 204. ENERGY EFFICIENCY Margy Davey stated the next meeting would be on Monday, September 20 at 4 pm in Room 404. The subcommittee would be meeting on the third Monday every other month. She also stated that Michelle Bogden - Muetzel would be replacing Ron Hardy. In addition, she stated that the subcommittee would be working on Focus on Energy, ICLEI Milestones, LEED and ENERGY STAR. Steve Barney stated he is entering GHG data into the ICLEI software. Steve Barney objected to changing the focus of the group and only having meeting every other month. SUSTAINABILITY PLAN Robin Leslie stated the subcommittee has completed seven of the 10 sections of the plan and should be finished with the last three by the end of October. She also stated once the sections are completed, the next item to work on would be the implementation plan. Chair Mitchell wanted to know when the document would be presented to the full Board for review and how would they review it. Margy Davey was concerned about going over each section again with the full board. Jan Scalpone stated the Plan also has to be submitted to the community for comment. BIKE AND PEDESTRIAN PLAN WORKING GROUP UPDATE Bob Breest stated there were two meetings this week and that there have been many changes to the original draft. He stated they are trying to finish by the end of the month. NEXT MEETING Chair Mitchell reminded the Board the next regularly scheduled meeting was Monday, October 4 th at 4:00 pm. ADJOURN Motion by Margy Davey and second by Kim Biedermann to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried 8 -0. Meeting adjourned at 5:00 pm.
