Subject: RE: 21.23(2) RE: "Screen room " / Sunroom Keep in mind that based on your comment of the "manufacturer's label" about the 65 mph wind limit, I am guessing others may have had problems before, even if he did not personally. Anyhow, I do not know how to predict when the wind will decide to blow over 65 mph, much less would I as a homeowner want to have to open my sunroom every time it is going to be really windy outside! I will follow up with the contractor. You may want to keep this in the back of your head as this is the "1st time he has ever had a problem with this installation." "No where else said anything was wrong with it." I have a feeling I am not done with this issue. Sunroom 1) Yes Comm 21.23(2) and Comm 21.02(1)(c)1. both clearly require that exterior wall surface be designed to resist 20 PSF acting over the surface area. 2) Yes NEC 210.52(A) receptacle outlet section specifically mentions sunrooms, so apply that. Reminder - note that Comm 21.04(3)(c)1. may also apply if exterior grade is low there, in addition to the wind load resistance of those wall areas [and see Comm 21.05(5)(a),(c) &(d) requirements as well]. First here is some history. The original plans specified a screen room off the rear of the house. The roof system was designed through the use of cantilevered trusses (about 6' -0 "). The floor is concrete poured over a frost protected concrete foundation. Instead of installing screens they decided to go with a product of vinyl windows (link attached) http: / /www.pgtindustries.com /Products /EzeBreeze /HCR.aspx . It does not show up within the web site but onsite stickers on the "windows" read that the vents( I'm guessing that 2/16/2007 "Screen room"! Sunroom Page 2 of 2 means these sliding vinyl panels) need to be opened or removed when wind speeds will exceed 65 MPH. There is siding on the wall of the house between the screen room and also a sliding exterior patio door. The room is not heated. My Questions: 1. Do the panels need to meet the required wind load when they are closed or installed? 2. Does this room become part of the UDC scope as far as Electrical codes (outlet spacing)? Thank you in advance for your answer/ interpretation. John Zarate Building Inspector City of Oshkosh 2/16/2007
