This year's Tour de Titan bike ride which is open to the community will be an approximately 60 minute ride through the city in two by two formation departing at 11 a.m. from the UW Oshkosh Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC) and ending at our Tent City pregame festival, south of the Oshkosh Sports Complex on Josslyn Street. The proposed route will go through the campus and head toward the lake through Menomonee Park and then back to the SRWC and /or Tent City. Please see attached proposed route. We want to ensure a safe and successful event which is why we are requesting city assistance have consulted with Special Operations Officer Harris and he feels the proposed route is acceptable. Tour de Titan organizers believe the purpose of the ride ties nicely to results of last year's Oshkosh vision survey, specifically the fact that the majority of participants indicated they want to see the creation of a more bicycle - friendly Oshkosh, adopt initiatives that promote healthy choices for residents and pursue sustainabiiity efforts. The Jingle Bell Run /Walk for Arthritis is a community 5k run /walk sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation and hosted by the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Student Recreation and Wellness Center. This is the first year the Arthritis Foundation has brought the event to Oshkosh. I have included the route we are proposing to use for the 2o10 event. It is the same route we use for the annual Shamrock Shuffle 5k run /walk held each March. The event will begin at 9:oo a.m. (registration to begin at 8:oo a.m.) at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. We anticipate the event will end by 1o:15 a.m., also at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. We will also contact the Oshkosh Police Department for their assistance with our event. There are several retired couples associated with the Wisconsin Polka Hall of Fame who have volunteered to help us for the weekend. These couples travel throughout the state attending these German - themed fests promoting Polka music and dance and assist many authentic German festivals with Cultural / Informational activities. They typically stay in their campers on festival grounds. I would like to be able to offer the parking lot to them so they will be available to us all weekend, serving as overnight security and dependable volunteer help.
