SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY BOARD
July 12, 2010

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 4:00 by Vice -Chair Justin Mitchell.
APPROVE MINUTES
Motion by Jan Scalpone and second by Margy Davey to approve the minutes from the last meeting.
Motion carried.
PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
FOCUS ON ENERGY/ENERGY STAR PRESENTATION
Justin Mitchell stated there will be a representative from "Focus on Energy" at the August 2nd meeting.
Jan Scalpone requested the also Board add a representative from `Bird City Wisconsin" to that meeting
as well.
Steve Barney requested to invite the City Manager to that meeting. Bob Poeschl stated he would make
an announcement at the next Council meeting.
UPDATE ON GHG WORKING GROUP/ENERGY SUBCOMMITTEE
Mr. Barney stated he hasn't seen much progress on the community GHG inventory. Mr. Burich stated
that the subcommittee has all the data that has been collected for the community inventory but has not
been inputted into the spreadsheets. Mr. Barney volunteered to help with inputting the information.
Mr. Barney stated he was also working on the Energy Star resolution.
UPDATE ON WATER WORKING GROUP/ENVIRONMENTAL SUBCOMMITTEE
Justin Mitchell commented on the new Water Conservation Brochure and noted that it has been
reviewed by City staff He stated that it will be inserted in the July- September water bill. The Board
discussed the brochure and members stated it was relatable for the lay person and they liked it.
The Board also discussed the Shoreland Restoration Plan. Jan Scalpone stated the Board needed to
identify all funding sources.
In addition, Justin Mitchell gave an update on the status of the community gardens. He stated the
Sherman Road site was full and there was still space available at Riverside Cemetery. Bob Poeschl
stated he has been working with the Parks Board to establish a community garden in Stevens Park for
his neighborhood.
SUSTAINABILITY PLAN UPDATE
Darryn Burich stated that four chapters have been drafted and the steering committee would be
discussing draft chapters at its upcoming meeting. He also stated the committee would be having an
additional meeting on July 28 in Room 204 and he would like the committee to meet every 2 -3 weeks
until the plan was finished. Jan Scalpone stated there were 10 chapters in total.

Motion by Margy Davey and second by Jan Scalpone to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. Meeting
adjourned at 4:55 pm.
