1 CITY OF OSHKOSH LANDMARKS COMMISSION MINUTES June 9, 2004 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Harold Buchholz, Carol Esslinger, Laurel Forsythe, Jim Grine, Orv Hando, Dick Rueckl, Jane Westphal
AD HOC MEMBERS PRESENT: Greg Krueger (ad hoc member, Paine Art Center) EXCUSED: Shirley Mattox, Brad Larson (ad hoc member, Oshkosh Public Museum) STAFF: Susan Kepplinger CALL TO ORDER
Chair Harold Buchholz called the meeting to order and a quorum was declared present. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Dick Rueckl moved approval of the minutes of the April meeting. Laurel Forsythe
seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. ELECTION OF OFFICERS Chair Harold Buchholz opened the floor for nominations for Commission Chair. Carol Esslinger nominated Harold Buchholz.
Dick Rueckl seconded the motion. Carol Esslinger moved nominations be closed, Jim Grine seconded the motion which passed unanimously. The floor was opened for nominations for Vice Chair.
Orv Hando nominated Jim Grine. Carol Esslinger seconded the motion. Laurel Forsythe moved nominations be closed. Dick Rueckl seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. PROJECT UPDATES
Historic Downtown Churches Shirley Mattox was not present to report. Promotion of Historic Preservation Education in Elementary Schools Harold Buchholz had nothing to report. Riverside
Cemetery Related Activities Commissioners discussed the need for a Friends of the Cemetery organization and agreed that such an organization would be very important in assisting the
city in preservation and other activities relative to not only private monuments but the city owned historic buildings on the site, which are in need of maintenance. There was also discussion
of the fact that there had once been a separate Cemetery Board that was dissolved. Commissioners directed staff to explore this matter with representatives of the Parks Department, the
Public Museum and the City Manager.
2 Main Street Walking Tour Brochure Staff reported on distribution to date and various Commissioners volunteered to deliver copies to the Library, Convention Center and both museums.
Development of Additional Main Street Walking Tour Brochures Commissioners agreed to discuss this matter during the July meeting. Historic City Information in Northwestern EAA publication
Harold Buchholz reported that he met with the Northwestern City Editor to discuss this. A copy of the Main Street walking tour brochure should be included in the publication. New Street
Signs for Historic Districts Staff reported that the signs had been ordered. Main Street Mystery Building Contest Staff reported that Greg Krueger had made and delivered several drop
boxes and the contest flyers had been completed and delivered prior to the May Art Walk and information announcing the contest was included in the Art Walk flyer but no entries were
received. DRAFT ANNUAL REPORT FOR COUNCIL Harold Buchholz distributed a draft annual report to Commissioners. Commissioners wishing to suggest changes were asked to contact him. Jim
Grine moved that the report be submitted to the Common Council as required by ordinance. Dick Rueckl seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. OTHER BUSINESS Orv Hando reminded
Commissioners about the upcoming Winnebago County Historical and Archeological Society sponsored tour of historic Algoma Boulevard properties scheduled for Sunday June 20. ADJOURNMENT
