HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 1 CITY OF OSHKOSH LANDMARKS COMMISSION MINUTES July 14, 2004 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Harold Buchholz, Carol Esslinger, Laurel Forsythe, Jim Grine, Orv Hando, Dick Rueckl AD HOC MEMBERS PRESENT: Greg Krueger (ad hoc member, Paine Art Center) EXCUSED: Shirley Mattox, Jane Westphal, Brad Larson (ad hoc member, Oshkosh Public Museum) STAFF: Susan Kepplinger CALL TO ORDER Chair Harold Buchholz called the meeting to order and a quorum was declared present. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Dick Rueckl moved approval of the minutes of the June meeting with the following corrections; Shirley Mattox was present and Jane Westphal was excused. Jim Grine seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. PROJECT UPDATES Historic Downtown Churches Shirley Mattox was not present to report. Promotion of Historic Preservation Education in Elementary Schools Harold Buchholz had nothing to report. Riverside Cemetery Related Activities Staff reported that no action had been taken on the direction the Commission had given at the previous meeting meeting to meet with the appropriate City staff people to discuss the situation with the Cemetery pending the outcome of the meeting the Museum had set up for those who had expressed an interest to the Museum relative to the Cemetery. Staff read the meeting notice to Commission members and will report on the July 17 meeting at the next Commission meeting. Due to the interest expressed by several Commission members in attending this meeting, staff will arrange for the required public notice. Development of Additional Main Street Walking Tour Brochure Jim Grine reported that he and Greg Krueger will be selecting buildings for the next brochure. There was discussion of possible themes and content of the next brochure. Historic City Information in Northwestern EAA publication Harold Buchholz reported that he will be following up on his previous contacts with the newspaper. 2 New Street Signs for Historic Districts An example of the sign and bracket was presented and well received by Commissioners. The poles have been ordered. The installation will be completed by the City Sign Division as soon as all components have been delivered. OTHER BUSINESS Staff advised the Commission of the raze and repair orders pending on the commercial building at 417 North Main which is in the North Main Historic District. Staff will continue to work with the owner and the Inspection Services Division toward a satisfactory resolution of this matter. Harold Buchholz raised the issue of the Commission submitting a budget request for consideration in development of the City’s 2005 Annual Budget. This item will be placed on the August agenda. Harold Buchholz also requested that these minutes reflect the fact that the final draft of the annual report had been distributed to Commission members with the agenda for this meeting. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, Dick Rueckl moved the meeting be be adjourned. Orv Hando seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
