Historic Downtown Churches Shirley Mattox reported that she continued discussions with Arlene Schmuhl at the Convention and Visitors Bureau regarding an Historic Church tour. Arlene
had suggested the Commission develop a tour brochure similar to North Main Street brochure. Commissioners discussed this concept and Shirley identified 10 central city churches that
could be considered; Baptist Temple, Grace Chapel, Christian Science Church, Trinity Episcopal, Foursquare Church, Christ Lutheran, First Presbyterian, First Congregational, St. Peters
and St. Marys. There was discussion on the relative merits of walking versus driving tours and of the possibility of identifying several groups of neighborhood churches located proximate
to each other in different areas of the city. Shirley will continue to work on this. Promotion of Historic Preservation Education Harold Buchholz reported that he had not made contact
with the University's archivist. He reiterated the importance of developing an appreciation of historic preservation through teaching historic architecture especially to young people.
The issue of using the Masterpiece Art Program in the Public School System was raised again. Shirley Mattox indicated that the art teachers with whom she had spoken felt
2 this approach would not work. The concept of polling art teachers was discussed, as was having a seminar on historic architecture for art teachers. The matter was referred back to
subcommittee with a request to forward a specific proposal to the Commission. Riverside Cemetery Related Activities There was nothing new to report on this matter. Development of Additional
Main Street Walking Tour Brochure There was nothing new to report on this matter. New Street Signs for Historic Districts Staff reported the City Sign Division had completed installation
