HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes CITY OF OSHKOSH LANDMARKS COMMISSION MINUTES FEBRURARY 8, 2006 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Harold Buchholz, Todd Clark, Carol Esslinger, Bev Harrington, Shirley Mattox, Arlene Schmuhl. AD HOC MEMBERS PRESENT: None EXCUSED: Dick Rueckl. STAFF: Susan Kepplinger CALL TO ORDER Chair Harold Buchholz called the meeting to order and a quorum declared present. APROVAL OF MINUTES Shirley Mattox moved approval of the January minutes as submitted. Bev Harrington seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. BASHFORD HOUSE Harold Buchholz reported that he had spoken to Terry Laib and things did not look promising for saving the property from demolition. Shirley Mattox requested that staff contact her if or when a demolition permit is taken out. PLANNING CALENDAR REVIEW Dick Rueckl was not present to address this with the Commission. 2006 GOAL SETTING Harold Buchholz moved approval of the following goals for 2006: 􀁸 Continue collaboration with the Library and Public Museum on historic architecture-themed public events 􀁸 Follow up on completed Intensive Historic Survey update, including informing owners of register-eligible properties, organize public presentation by consultant, make copies of report available to the public. 􀁸 Landmark at least one property Todd Clark seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Commissioners begin discussion of properties that might be suitable for Landmarking. These included the Frank Lloyd House on Algoma Boulevard, a William Waters designed house on Fulton Avenue, the Lustron House off Knapp Street, the Italianate house on High Avenue, the Riverside Cemetery Chapel and a four square on the south side. Chair Harold Buchholz directed staff to present a review of the landmarking process at the March Commission meeting. There was discussion regarding a library/exhibit event. It was suggested that the Commission work with the Library on an exhibit that would last more than just a night for a Gallery Walk event. AREA REPORTS Todd Clark, Arlene Schmuhl and Shirley Mattox each reported briefly. There were no significant developments in any of these areas, although Todd Clark reported a number of homes for sale on Franklin Street in the Irving Church Historic District. 2006 PRESERVATION MONTH PLANS There was general discussion regarding possible activities for preservation month. It was suggested that the Landmarking process take place as well as a presentation on the Historic Survey Update. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, Arlene Schmuhl moved the meeting be adjourned.
