HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes CITY OF OSHKOSH LANDMARKS COMMISSION MINUTES December 13, 2006 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Paul Arnold, Harold Buchholz, Todd Clark, Carol Esslinger, Bev Harrington, Shirley Mattox, Arlene Schmuhl AD HOC MEMBERS PRESENT: None OTHERS PRESENT: None EXCUSED: Dick Rueckl STAFF: Susan Kepplinger CALL TO ORDER Chair Harold Buchholz called the meeting to order and a quorum was declared present. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Carol Esslinger moved approval of the minutes of the November meeting as submitted. Bev Harrington seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. CERTIFIED LOCAL GOVERNMENT (CLG) PROGRAM Staff reported that the proposed Ordinance language changes will be on the December 19 Plan Commission agenda for their action. The item then could be on the two January Common Council meetings for action. RIVERSIDE CHAPEL Todd Clark reported that the tile work is in progress. 2007 GOAL SETTING Harold Buchholz reviewed the three goals that had been set for 2006; Activities related to completion of the Intensive Historic Survey update Local landmark designation of at least one property Working with the Library to develop an exhibit on local architecture Commissioners discussed progress made on these and identified the following possible goals for 2007; Gaining Certified Local Government status, applying for CLG activity funding Preservation of Riverside Cemetery Improving Commissioners’ knowledge of architectural styles Response to closing of historic churches Following discussion, Bev Harrington moved that the Commission keep the three 2006 goals and add the CLGrelated goal. Shirley Mattox seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Commissioners then agreed to discuss the remaining possible goals and finalize all 2007 goals at the January meeting. PLANNING CALENDAR REVIEW There was no discussion on this item. REPORTS OF WORKING COMMITTEES Library Exhibit There has been no progress on this project. Survey Update OCAT continues working with staff on a draft script for the program on the Survey Update. Bev Harrington reported on her conversation with Rick Bernstein at the State Historical Society regarding training Commission members to complete National Register nomination forms. Staff was directed to follow up to arrange for SHPO staff to provide that training in a one session format some time in 2007. Local Landmark Candidates Harold Buchholz reported that the subcommittee met and reviewed a number of possible individual properties. Paul Arnold completed research on 34 potential properties and provided specific information on some of them, which included the homes of Steve Whittman, Ted Mack, August Horn, and Louise Hando. AREA REPORTS There were no area reports. ADJOURNMENT Carol Esslinger moved the meeting be adjourned. Shirley Mattox seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
