Approve Initial Resolution for Special Assessments / Sidewalk Installation/ Washburn
Street ( Witzel Ave. to Abraham Ln)
BACKGROUND
This resolution is the initial resolution for allowing the City to assess benefitting property owners for
improvements. The work will involve the installation of sidewalk along the west side of Washburn Street
from Witzel Ave. to Abraham Ln. This work will be completed by a Wisconsin Department of
Transportation (DOT) project and be billed to the City. The Council previously approved the State
Municipal Agreement for the installation, including the installation of sidewalk through two parcels in the
Town of Algoma.
ANALYSIS
The resolution allows City Staff to proceed with preparing assessments for the abutting properties within
the City. A public hearing and final resolution need to be approved by the Council prior the assessments
being levied on the properties.
FISCAL IMPACT
All costs associated with installation of the sidewalk adjacent to City properties will be assessed to the
benefitting City property owners. The Town of Algoma will be asked to assess these improvements
against their properties.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Staff recommends approval of the initial resolution.
Respectfully Submitted,
A
Steven M. Gohde
Asst. Director of Public Works
