Cautionary Statement to Owners Obtaining Building Permits
101.65(1r) of the Wisconsin Statutes requires municipalities that enforce the Uniform Dwelling Code to provide an owner who applies for a
building permit with a statement advising the owner that:
If the owner hires a contractor to perform work under the building permit and the contractor is not bonded or insured as required under
s. 101.654 (2) (a), the following consequences might occur:
(a) The Owner may be held liable for any bodily injury to or death of others or for any damage to the property of others that arises out of
the work performed under the building permit or that is caused by any negligence by the contractor that occurs in connection with the
work performed under the building permit.
(b) The Owner may not be able to collect from the contractor damages for any loss sustained by the owner because of a violation by the
contractor of the one and two family dwelling code or an ordinance enacted under sub. (1) (a), because of any bodily injury to or
death of others or damage to the property of others that arise out of the work performed under the building permit or because of any
bodily injury to or death of others of damage to the property of others that is caused by any negligence by the contractor that occurs
in connection with the work performed under the building permit.
In the performance of this work I agree to perform all work pursuant to rules governing the described construction.
While the City of Oshkosh has no authority to enforce easement restrictions of which it is not a party, if you perform the work
described in this permit application within an easement, the City strongly urges the permit applicant to contact the easement
holder(s) and to secure any necessary approvals before starting such activity.

Dan,
I called your number this morning and the nice lady that answered stated you would not be
home until 2:30 this afternoon. I will call you this afternoon however I will be out of
the office by 2:30 and I will not be in until Monday April 26th. I'm going to forward
this e -mail string to John Zarate who is another building inspector in our office. That
way you'll be able to contact him if you have any questions (his direct line is 236- 5119).
The only issue or concern I have with the ramp is the fact that you'll be raising the
landing portion of the precast stair unit approx. 3 ". This more than likely will not be a
concern unless the precast unit settles or raises due to frost. If that occurs and the
door is not able to open or the ramp is not level you'll need to remove the precast
platform and construct a level landing out of wood with the required frost protection.
For now I will issue the permit as you have planned.
I have entered the permit into the computer system and it can be obtained at our office
anytime Monday through Friday between 7:30am- 4:15pm. I will leave the application and
information at the front desk with the secretaries so that they can issue it to you. I
will also include a handout on stair codes that will be helpful to you. The permit fee
will be $50.
As far as inspections go you'll need to call for a footing inspection prior to pouring
concrete and a final inspection when you are finished. The phone number for the
inspection line is 236 -5128.
