GRAND OPERA HOUSE ADVISORY BOARD
M I N U T E S
FEBRUARY 22, 2010
ROOM 404- CITY HALL
Present: Braxton Patterson, Mary Louise Lewis, Diane Popowski, Marvin Mengeling,
and Marilyn Haberkorn and Diane Lowe. Also present were GOH Executive Director
Joe Ferlo and Assistant City Manager/Director of Administrative Services John
Fitzpatrick.
CALL TO ORDER:
Vice Chair Lewis called the meeting to order at 7 P.M.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 16, 2009 MEETING:
It was motioned by Haberkorn, seconded by Lewis, that the November 16, 2009, minutes
be approved as presented. Motion carried unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS: UPDATE OF THE GRAND RENOVATION PROJECT
Mr. Fitzpatrick then presented some Grand Renovation Project update notes prepared by
Mr. Urben, including:
Attic flooring is now complete;
HVAC ducting, fire sprinkler runs, emergency lighting, roof shingles and copper
gutter linings are now being installed;
Drywall/plaster crews started new ceiling starting in back working to front;
Wood soffit repairs/restoration and painting expected to begin in coming weeks;
Wallcovering installation to follow after drywall/plastering complete;
Market Street expected to be re-opened to motorist traffic by March 1;
Decorative Elements Working Group pleased with Conrad Schmitt Studios work
on art elements—new designs will be better and more representative of original
art in GOH;
Mr. Urben wanted to thank GOH staff for their input and assistance during
renovation project;
Boldt crews doing great job;
Tour of renovation offered to GOH Advisory Board in coming weeks (Urben will
help coordinate);
Paperwork from State related to $500K grant has been processed.
Mr. Ferlo also added some additional notes related to the renovation project, including:
This past Saturday was the one year anniversary since the GOH was closed due to
safety concerns;
Davis painting (contracted for wallcovering) has found original notes for patterns
and paint of 1980 renovation;
The GOH seats will be fixed or in some cases replaced as they are returned to the
hall
September opening plans are being discussed;
18,000 votes were cast for the Top 100 process.
NEW BUSINESS:
Under New Business Mr. Ferlo noted a hearing loop (funded by donors) was going to be
installed within the Grand hopefully yet in the summer.
There being no other business, it was motioned by Patterson and seconded by Lowe that
the Grand Opera House Advisory Board adjourn at 7:52 p.m. Motion carried
unanimously.
