HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutesMINUTES SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY BOARD January 4, 2010 Board Members Present: Steve Barney, Bob Breest, Justin Mitchell, Jan Scalpone, Andrew Sabai, Margy Davey, Tony Palmeri, Ron Hardy, Todd Sohr Excused: All Present Staff: Darryn Burich, Planning Director CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 4:00 by Chair Ron Hardy. APPROVE MINUTES Motion by Margy Davey and second by Tony Palmeri to approve minutes from the last meeting. Motion carried. PUBLIC COMMENT None. UPDATE ON BIKE/PED PLAN Darryn Burich stated that they were hoping to get a draft of the Plan from the consultant in the next few weeks. Justin Mitchell inquired if the draft plan would be brought before the SAB? Mr. Burich stated that Planning Services was intending on bringing the Plan to the SAB and one of the Transportation or Transit committees for comment prior to being taken up by the Plan Commission. SHORELINE RESTORATION PRESENTATION Acting Parks Director Bill Sturm appeared and provided a brief overview of the Parks Department's plans for shoreline restoration in the Ames Point and Millers Bay area of Menominee Park. DRAFT SHORELINE RESTORATION PLAN -WATER COMMITTEE The board briefly went over a report prepared by the Water Committee distributed at the meeting identified as "Shoreland Restoration in Miller's Bay ". The Board will review the report and discuss it at an upcoming meeting. DRAFT WEED HARVESTOR PROPOSAL — WATER COMMITTEE Andrew Sabai went over a distributed report identified as "Miller's Bay Aquatic Plant Management" that was prepared to discuss the plant management situation in Miller's Bay and merits of mechanical harvesting vs. chemical treatment. SUSTAINABILITY PLAN UPDATE Mr. Burich provided a status on the progress on the Sustainability Plan and the timeline he anticipated for completing the plan although no data has yet been gathered. GHG WORKING GROUP UPDATE Ron Hardy stated that the municipal inventory had been done and now were working with the City to get the information and checklists to complete the community wide assessment. Mr. Barney added that no data had yet been gathered. SUSTAINABILITY BOARD GOAL SETTING Ron Hardy went over a handout regarding the goal setting session and inquired if new working groups should be created or add to the existing work groups. FOCUS ON ENERGY REBATES Justin Mitchell briefly went over the "Focus on Energy" rebates being offered through the State of Wisconsin and directed interested parties to the State's website for more information. NEW YORK CITY GHG REDUCTION ARTICLE Due to time constraints, discussion on this item had to be postponed for an upcoming meeting but Tony Palmeri encouraged everyone to read the article to learn what New York City is doing to cut GHG emissions. ADJOURN There being no further business, Margy Davey moved and Tony Palmeri seconded that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 6:00 pm.
