Mark Ziemer Director, Senior Services PRESENT: Corky Abraham, Kimberly Bauer, Claude Benedict, Lurton Blassingame, Kathryn Glander, Harold Singstock, Glenn Steinbrecher, Xandy Kloeckl, Peggy Bellin, Jesse Fillmore, Ann Jungwirth, Dr Jean Caudle, Ruth McGinley, STAFF Mark Ziemer, Director of Senior Services, Gerry Haverty Office Assistant Meeting called to order by Chairman Corky Abraham at 8 Motion made to accept the minutes of the December 2, 2009 meeting. Unanimous motion carried. CORRESPONDENCE • Chris Kniep and Marilyn Herman who are family living educators gave a presentation on Safe Watch which is part of ADRC (Aging and Disabilities Resource Center). Marilyn is from Waupaca County and Chris is a professor with the UW Extension. Safe Watch is designed to keep older adults in their homes up to eighteen months longer. This program is to educate persons to keep a watch on their elderly neighbors or customers that they see on a routine bases. Safe Watch is designed to keep older citizens stay more independent. Safe Watch is all over the country. Educating police, neighbors, grocery store clerks and hair dressers just to name a few, who have contact with elderly persons. Any person can make a phone call the ADRC with concerns about an elderly person. OLD BUSINESS: Contract with the convention center and hotel is signed for the Living in 2010 Conference for Tuesday October 5, 2010 NEW BUSINESS: Corky would like everyone on the COA to look at the list of conference committees and see what area they could be a part of. A person could be part of a committee and it does not mean they have to be a chairman. The conference is only 10 months away. COMMITTEE REPORTS • Mark, Corky, Peggy, and Kim are part of the oversight committee. • Ann Jungwirth Hospitality/ Registration. • Kathy and Kim Marketing /Public Relations. • Harold Singstock/ Budget process and Costs. • Corky had each person check the list and see what they would like to partake in doing for the conference, • Kim and Jesse/ pictures • Glen and Lurton /corporate Sponsors • Food is done through the Supple Restaurant Group • Corky questioned what type of give a ways are the exhibitors doing? • Mark went of to say, good food, great prizes make for a great conference • Xandy questioned are all the other groups that are involved with the conference are they signing up for a committee also? • Corky said yes, all the persons who signed up for a position will be getting together as a committee. • Corky continued with each board member questioning what area they would like to be working on all committee members responded to either being on one and even two areas needed for the conference. • The title of the conference is Living in 2010, Healthy Aging / Healthy Living. • Mark is hoping to make contact with a key note speaker. • Glen volunteered information on a web site were you can see what speakers are in the state and how you can make contact with them. Glen said he would get that information to Mark. DIRECTORS REPORT: • Mark informed the committee that he would be taking a leave of absence from Leadership Oshkosh. • The possibility of the county and city merging is still unknown. This may take up to a year to settle this problem. • Mark said he thinks there is progress in getting all the boards working together. We need all the boards working for the betterment of the Seniors Center. • Mark went on to say that Laurin Hoffman has retired from the Seniors Center do to health problems. • CHIPS (Community Health Improvement Plan) continues to meet at the Seniors Center. Mark and the health staff here are working on this. Promoting healthy lifestyles from birth to the aging. The most needed are Alcohol, Tobacco and Drugs to be kept at a high attention. COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS /CONCERNS: • Committee members had questions on what some of the job descriptions were on the committee list. • Mark went through the list for the conference committee and gave a brief description of what each area involves.
