HomeMy WebLinkAboutped bike plan updateCity of Oshkosh - D 215 Church Avenue of Comm hkosh, WI 54901 4 OfHKOfH ON THE WATER 236 -5055 (920) 236 -5053 MEMORANDUM TO: Darryn Burich, Director of Planning Services FROM: David Buck, Principal Planner DATE: January 4, 2010 RE: Bicycle/Pedestrian Circulation Plan Update Proiect History • Project kicked off with a staff meeting on May 12, 2009 to discuss the scope, timeline and responsibilities of all parties involved • The first of two Steering Committee meetings was held on June 30, 2009 to create the vision and goals and objectives for the plan. • The first of two Public Informational meetings was held on August 20, 2009 to identify priority corridors, origins and destinations, trouble spots as well as discuss how citizens feel the system should work. Hard copy and online survey established to gather specific community bike and ped. information. Community outreach in the form of presentation boards /display at various events in October such as the Granny Smith 5K Run/Walk, Transportation Fair at UW Oshkosh, and the Tour de Titan highlighting the potential for Oshkosh as a bike /pedestrian friendly community and promoting use of the online (or hard copy) survey. Chapters including the table of contents, introduction and the planning process were submitted from the consultant December 28, 2009 and are currently being reviewed by staff. A copy of the draft table of contents is attached to the memo. Continued Process • All chapters of the draft plan are expected to be submitted to the City for staff review within the next couple of weeks for internal staff review (to determine consistency with the City's Comprehensive and other planning documents. • Next Steering Committee meeting should be held shortly after the internal review, late January. • Once Steering Committee has been able to digest /revise /prioritize recommendations, the draft will be amended and another Public Information Meeting will be scheduled for final draft plan presentation and review. • The final draft plan will then go before the City's Traffic Review Advisory Board, Sustainability Advisory Board and Plan Commission for presentation and recommendation, comments from the public informational meeting will be presented to these bodies. • The final draft plan will then be presented to the Common Council (possibly including a workshop) for adoption. Comments from the public informational meeting, the Traffic Review Advisory Board Sustainability Advisory Board and the Plan Commission will be presented.
