HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutesMINUTES SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY BOARD November 2, 2009 Board Members Present: Steve Barney, Justin Mitchell, Jan Scalpone, Andrew Sabai, Margy Davey, Tony Palmeri Excused: Bob Breest, Ron Hardy, Todd Sohr Staff: Darryn Burich CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 4:00 by Vice Chairman Justin Mitchell. APPROVE MINUTES Steve Barney asked to change some wording in the Greenhouse Gas Working Group Update section and the Progress on 2009 Goals section. Motion by Margy Davey and second by Tony Palmeri to approve the minutes as amended. Motion carried. PUBLIC COMMENT None. BIKE/PED PLAN UPDATE Darryn Burich didn't have anything to report other than progress is being made and that he hopes to have a draft plan to present to the public within the next couple of months but will report again next month on activities. BRIAN KIENERT (OSHKOSH CYCLING CLUB) REPORT ON "TOUR DE TITAN" Brian Kienert stated that he felt the ride was successful with over 100 riders, that included 5 council persons, and that he wanted to make the ride a community awareness ride to highlight some of infrastructure issues affecting biking in the community. The ride spotlighted the downtown area. Mr. Kienert stated that UWO would like to make this an annual event and he would like to change the route for next year. NICK SCHNEIDER COMMUNITY GARDENS 2009 UPDATE AND 2010 PLANS Justin Mitchell stated that he had asked to put this item on the agenda as a potential goal for next year and asked Nick Sneider, Agriculture Agent from Winnebago County UWEX to briefly discuss community gardens. OUTREACH HOLIDAY PARADE Margy Davey stated that she has tentatively registered the Board in the Holiday Parade but needs a positive vote from the Board to actually commit to participate in the parade. She stated that she is trying to get some donations to create signs and has lined up potentially three hybrid vehicles for floats. Steve Barney inquired if this was going to cost the Board any money. Margy Davey stated that it would all be donations. Motion by Jan Scalpone and second by Justin Mitchell to approve the request to participate in the holiday parade. Motion carried. GHG WORKING GROUP UPDATE Steve Barney went over a communication from the group to the City about questions or problems with various aspects of the GHG inventory. EECBG APPLICATION STATUS UPDATE Board members discussed an October 23, 2009 memo from Jon Urban, General Services Director, and Peggy Steeno, Finance Director to City Manager, Mark Rohloff regarding the City's Energy Efficiency Grant application status. SUSTAINABILITY PLAN STEERING COM. UPDATE Darryn Burich didn't have anything to report other than the plan for planning is underway and several example plans from other Wisconsin cities were discussed that will serve as a model for the City's Sustainability Plan. APPOINT REPLACEMENT TO SUSTAINABLITY PLAN STEERING COMMITTEE Since Dani Stolley resigned from the Board to serve as an intern with the City to prepare the Sustainability Plan, a replacement is needed to serve on the Steering Committee. Motion by Margy Davey and second by Tony Palmeri to appoint Ron Hardy to serve on the Steering Committee. Motion carried. ADJOURN There being no further business, Margy Davey moved and Tony Palmeri seconded that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried unanimously.
