Oshkosh, WI 54902 Mark Ziemer (920) 232 -5300 (920) 232 -5307 FAX Director, Senior Services CENTER OSHKOSH COMMITTEE ON AGING MINUTES September 2, 2009 PRESENT: Corky Abraham, Kimberly Bauer, Claude Benedict, Dr Jean Caudle, Ann Jungwirth, Ruth McGinley, Lurton Blassingame, Kathryn Glander, Harold Singstock, Glenn Steinbrecher, Xandy Kloeckl STAFF Mark Ziemer, Director of Senior Services, Gerry Haverty Office Assistant Meeting called to order by Chairman Corky Abraham at 8 Corrections of minutes was done and accepted. CORRESPONDENCE None OLD BUSINESS: NEW BUSINESS Will be changing our agenda. Limited amount of time for reports. Several ideas were mentioned on how speakers should be handled and the business meeting. COMMITTEE REPORTS CWAG is a grassroots state wide organization for the voice of all seniors in the state of Wisconsin. CWAG district meeting is being held here on October 5, 2009. There will be several legislative speakers from the state. Dr. Jean Caudle spoke about nutrition and meals being brought into person's home and the cost of the meals. Spoke about learning to drive in roundabouts. Vision of the Oshkosh Seniors Center was discussed. DIRECTORS REPORT: CHIP (Community Health Improvement Program) meeting held here. Paula and Mark are on this committee. Strategic planning between the city and county health departments. Mark Paula have talked with Lutheran Social Services about memory clubs. The first group for Ombudsman met in the Willows Rooms first meeting for service providers and nursing home staff and directors. State program, Winnebago County is one of the counties doing this program. Recruits volunteers, trains and assigns them to a nursing home and do site visits. Do a visual and have interviews with the residents. This is set up to check on quality of care. Mark made contact with this group at the CWAG and volunteered to have the meeting here at our facility. Making the Ride Happen. Winnebago County is writing a grant to expand this service to the entire Winnebago County. Arranging transportation to cross county lines. Center for Community of Partnerships with UWO. Mark met with them at the suggestion of Mark Rohloff. Glenn would like to make contact with the committee Candace Corbett and Joan Jaworski who will be at our normal flu shot routine because of the confusion for the last 2 years. We will have phones, envelopes and forms to help the persons who have supplements. Public meeting on the bike and walking trails. Mark attended the first meeting to promote the trails along the river. Human Service intern this fall Jason Hubbard, will be working with staff on programs that are going on at the center. New brochure should be out soon. Dispel the myth that the center is more that just meals, cards, and bingo. Laurin Hoffman our maintenance person had surgery and will be out for a few more months. Met with Mark Rohloff and Peggy Steeno. 0% increase in budget. Oct 3, 2009 at the Sunnyview Expo Center, a half day older adult conference. COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS /CONCERNS: Glenn was asking for more information on FOSC, TRIAD, Senior Connection, and Mark Weisensel. Gordy Treffert of CWAG set up the political people to speak here at the district meeting October 5, 2009. Use the news letter to announce the speakers that are coming and so the public can attend. Use our senior connections person Mary Kay, for questions and assistance. Many ideas were spoken about having doctors talk about the new health care. Nursing home administrators.
